Guys I have a chance to buy a CLK 430 coupe for a great price. The only catch is my Dad says if I buy it I have to get rid of my suburban. This is/was my first car. I never thought I would get rid of it. What are peoples thoughts on the old body style CLK 430's. What would you do? The car is fire engine red with black interior.

Seth the deal is way to good to pass up to look for another one. One owner 1999 clk 430 sport red/black for $14,500. The car has 47k on it. I have known the owner my whole life and they are selling it to me for the same price the dealership was giving them as a trade. If I want it they don't even want the difference tax wise they would have saved if they traded it in.

Erik you gotta go for it, the only problem is you wont be able to haul around everyone and everything like in the Suburban. I for one like the car styling wise and i think the red suits you, you know Saint Joes colors. This will make the entire garage Mercedes and Ferrari now right. Go for it buddy.

Rotten color combo for sure.........almost sale proof.

Get another color........or buy the car and try to flip it for resale while driving it in the interim.........and the interim wait will probably be months because of the color.

Patty yeah the garage will be all benz except the ferrari and the Caddy. I actually don't mind the color that much. I just am having thoughts about selling my first car.

I think that given the situation with it being a friend of the family doing him a favor, it would be a poor idea to buy it with the intention of flipping it.

I think it sounds like a great buy. I agree it is not an ideal Mercedes color combo, but you will most likely be keeping the car for a few years, right? So who cares if the 15k car you bought five years ago is worth 10% less because of its color?

Yeah I think I would hang on to it for a while. I am just having trouble thinking of selling my first car. I thought I would hang onto it forever.

Go for the Benz. Sell the Suburban. Too good a deal to pass, IMO.

I personally prefer 2000+ as I don't care for the steering wheel in the 1999's but I like the car generally. At $14K +/- that has to be a good deal though even with the color so buy it and drive it and don't worry about it.

When you get ready to sell it let me know - at that kind of money I will drive a car that isn't a blue convertible! :)

    Cheers
    Kevin

Get rid of the suburban. Never get emotionally attached to any car, much less any material object. THus, the suburban being your first means nothing.

I disagree with others about Red being a wrong color. There are plenty of silver/black CLK's around. Be different, stand out, live a little. THere are enough boring people in the world, don't be one of them.

I love the older CLK. Really good/classic design with the wedges. THe current one has been feminized from a design perspective.

I am attaching pics of the car owned by Peter at wheelexperts. Its stunning. I have posted it before many times on F chat whenever CLK discussions come up. The car has potential and is different, get it and have fun.

on a side note if everyone in the world was concerned about resale like some posters in this thread, no one would drive white lambos and blue ferraris.

That price is $4,000 LESS than the car is bringing at the Manheim auctions (dealer auction), for AVERAGE CONDITION. You could drive this car up to 3 years for FREE. Ask no further questions and buy the car. If you don't want it, email me.

I am working on it. The dealer called the guy and raised there price $1.5k when they found out they weren't getting it as a trade. I am working on it. I raised my price again the $1.5k but anything higher and I will be out. I'll keep you updated.
