This thread is weird. Very weird.
Wasn’t this car for sale in Connecticut 2 years ago for like 62k? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Maybe but pricing 2 years ago is not current pricing. Everything has increased and the used market for all cars is at an all time high.
I don't see where he's saying it sold for too much money. Just asking if it was the same car. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
I haven't been this involved in a novel of twists and turns since I read The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne. I can see exactly what the issue was, but ill keep that to myself.
I purchased the car contingent on it passing an inspection at Algar Ferrari. Was super excited about a running project. However, It was not running when it arrived at the dealer. Both ECU's fried. 3 pages of multiple other issues and a bad cylinder. It was previously a rental car as well. Dealers can inflate things, but I feel it was worth spending $1400 on the pre-buy. Hope he gets it running, bc I'd like to still buy it now that I know all it needs. Worth less than 1/2 the winning bid on ebay unfortunately, but seller not willing to part with it for that price. To be continued!?!?!?!?!?!?
Woah, the soap opera continues....No surprise a PPI turned up stuff, it's a 20 year old car, but I'm definitely interested in hearing more about the "bad cylinder". This is more common on cars equipped with precats, but barring any crazy issues (variator exploding, etc.), it's barely heard of on the 99's. Could it possibly be a bad coil pack/ injector or something like that? Also, the ECU's are fried or just needs a re-flash as mentioned in the original post? Sorry this happened, it does look like a nice car but this definitely soils it a bit. I don't agree this cuts the value "in half" as even salvage title cars go for more than that, but I definitely understand the concern. Maybe the OP can chime in and clarify some.
I was thinking about buying this car. Interesting that Algar did a PPI for you. They told me they don’t do them. That’s part of the reason I walked away. What was the winning bid on eBay? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Long story short, car was perfectly great leading up to sale , tried to start , turned over and cranked just no start- car had no issues as far as I’m concerned leading up to the sale , brought to a shop to fix, they couldn’t, brought to algar, they said it’s likely the previous shop had fried the ECU’s , and they had left the car a mess as far as things hanging loosely and disconnected…Being said, keeping the car and will just fix it! It’s really a nice car but it’s “history” isn’t the most eye watering! Ha! As far as the buyer goes, nothing to say but good things- stand up guy! I’m glad this turned up actually as I would feel terrible if he figured this out once the car was payed for and shipped! Told him to drive across country…. Ha! Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be
