I may be upgrading from my 348 to a 1999 360, red, tan interior, 15K miles. I've searched the forum. . .is 75K a decent price if the guy was second owner and he has all service records. Says the 15K major was actually done about 5 years ago when the car had 10K miles. I heard the major for the 360 is actually less than for the 348 because there is no need to have the "engine out" when doing the service. Also, I've searched for extended warranties and it sounds like aftermarket ones are not really liked on this forum. Does anyone know if ferrari offers one for the 360? If I really wanted to consider an extended warranty, anyone have a reputable seller they can recommend. thanks
If the 15k was done 5 years ago, it's about 2 years overdue for service. See that the variator campaign has been done, and other issues are up to date but belts are every 3 years so it's long overdue for service.
To my knowledge, I don't think Ferrari offers an aftermarket warranty per say. But it depends on how extensive you wanted to go, into the whole aftermarket thing. Novitec Rosso does a lot of aftermarket work specifically for Ferrari's. It ranges from aerodynamics, suspension work and even down to adding forced induction to the motor. They offer warranties through their company in case any of their products becomes defective on your F car. But I'm pretty sure it will void you main factory warranty if it was already in place at the time. Ferrari isn't too keen on modifications so it all falls on buyer discretion. As far as the 360 service work is concerned, the belts on the engine is the main kicker from what I understand. It definitely won't cost as much to service as your 348 of course. If the seller says he's done all the maintenance work on the car and has all records, then $78k doesn't sound all that bad for it. But the main thing that gets me with private sellers, records or not, I would still have a PPI done just in case. See if the price offered has any more wiggle room to work with. I have seen one too many deals out there already for 360's with some even being sold for $65k with close to 20k miles.
I just finished doing the major on my 99 for $4112. Figure your buying the car at $75K. Can't say about the warranties though.
Yes, on a '99 360 you can still get the extended power train warranty from Ferrari. Cost about $3500-$4200, so why would you??? For sure the car you are looking at is way past due for a 30k service! Has he changed the oil or other fluids since '05??? To me there are better maintained cars out there for sure. Robert
belt service can be brought up to date no problem. But you can't update the fact that the fluids probably haven't been changed in that same period of time. coolant and lubricants sitting in an engine for that long is not good...
If I'm not mistaken, you can get this warranty but only after the car has been brought up to Ferrari spec condition. This means you can't just drive into a Ferrari dealer and slap the warranty on your car. You need to let the dealer do a thorough inspection, fix anything that's out of spec and *then* you can spend more money to buy the warranty. Have the PPI done and negotiate any repair work required from the purchase price. You should be good... and won't need the warranty. Frank
Way over priced. You should pay about 65k for the car. Many better deals are around. Check ebay. You'll see no recent sales for 360s over 70k, irrespective of year. Art
Yes, Frank is correct, I was quoted $495 for the inspection alone!! Crazy! Needless to say, I did not purchase the warranty and guess what!! The car works fine! Robert
Hardly any 360s sell on ebay. Its funny, because I just bought the same car in your screen name that has all records, 2 sets of wheels, factory Tubi, grills, shields, Carbon buckets, and other options. vey clean car. I paid a good bit more than you say the cars should be going for. And He had a wholesale bid for a good bit more than that as well. The only cars that are selling in the 60's are cars with stories. Cars with known history, good colors and options are selling for more than that. to the OP - you need more info to make a good decision - what options are on the car, what transmission does it have, does it have any previous paintwork. what life does the clutch have left in it. does it have all the keys, covers, books, etc. It COULD be a $65k car depending on how you answer those questions. But IMO, it could be a 90k car if you answered them all favorably. Anyone here you has actually bought a ferrari (most stay out of these pricing threads because of all the internet warriors) will tell you that spending an extra $10k to get the right car will be money well spent. $4k for a belt service, similar or more for a clutch, and if you have to buy tires or do a fluid service, all of a sudden you have just dropped the $10k. If the car passes a PPI, and you like it, buy it. Goodluck Matt
Looked at the car today. It has 14.3K miles on it. Owner says that every year he gets all the fluid levels checked, oil changed etc. He has put about 6K miles on it in the last 5 years. The major service was done 5 years ago. The carfax report is clean as expected. I had the car looked at by the mechanic that takes care of my present 348. He says that the car is in good/great condition. Some paint work was noted on the front bumper and driver door near the bottom, but otherwise, seems like a clean car. The car comes with all manuals, paperwork, etc. Going to look at it one more time next week. Question. . .I researched the 348 pretty extensively before I bought it, but what kind of service is recommended for the 360. I know it isn't as "major" as the 348 because the engine doesn't have to come out, but my mechanic told me that he can check on the timing belt with the next oil change. Oh, he did mention that the brakes are down to 40%, but depending on how I drive, this should be fine for a long time. And I did look on ebay, cars.com, etc and it seems like the "good ones" with clean records, etc are all in the 70-110K range although some can be had for less, seems like they have more problems. suggestions?
Don't worry about the brakes, my friend. I changed the pads on my 360 spider. It is a joke. No problem at all, and even if you're not very mechanical, you and a friend could do all four, in one day, a few hours after lunch. This time includes cleaning and detailing as you go..........
I had a '94 348 and have had a '99 360 for the last 2 1/2 years. My 360 has been rock solid and very reliable and this matches the feedback I got regarding the cars from Norwoods in Dallas. The major service is much cheaper than the 308/328/348/355 cars as the engine stays in the car but I would not call it cheap. I would assume $5k for the major and a few other things that are likely to come up. I am not sure of the market now but it is a lot of car for $75k in my opinion. Very fast, beautiful and quite reliable for a Ferrari.
