if all they're going to do is flush it down the drain, at least give it to charity to auction off, or what not. or, better yet, give it to my fraternity, we'll be more then happy to supply the coke, :D

They should auction it all off & lower taxes that year in those counties :)

Destroying those unopened bottles is destroying a piece of America history.

It sounds like the alcohol is an excuse for the gov to jump in. Reading between the lines, apparently people were selling the antique bottles, and the state jumped in because there was old booze in those bottles, and the sellers didn't have a licence to sell licquor. The state isn't planning on smashing the bottles, just dumping the booze, to justify having snatched the "booty" from the sellers.

But it's the "unopened bottles" that drives the value up.

This may be another case (no pun intended) of a state destroying value just to get their fingers into the pie.

(Why, yes, I am a cynic. Why do you ask?)

Jack Daniels is made in a dry county - you cannot buy it where it is made. This article makes more sense, even though is doesn't, eh?

I hate the idea of counties, towns and such having "dry" statures. Just seems wrong to me. I'm suprised Jack is made in a dry county. I would've of expected the employees, money generated, and company influence would have supported the sale of alcohol.

I used to do quite a bit of business with Jack Daniels when I was in trucking. The way I understand is Moore County which is the county Lynchburg is in is the small county by area and population. In order for the county to become a wet county they have to have a certian number of votes (not percentage). There apparently are not enough registered voters in Moore County to overturn it's dry status.

Now this is from a guy at Jack Daniels I never actually researched if this is the reason.

They do however have some kind of permission to sell full commemorative bottles on the square in Lynchbug. It is got around the dry county for selling a bottle for it's particular collector value and not for consumption of the contents.

So I really do not see a difference in what these guys that got busted were doing than what goes on every day at the visitors center on the square in Lynchburg.
