Don't worry, they are just playing with words,
which, adults do alot...to have fun among themselves.

They're not talking TO, or ABOUT you...

AND THEY'RE NOT MAKING FUN OF YOU.

Maybe so - but I suspect you are not an "average" 13 year old. Seriously, though, everyone here is interested in being supportive and encouraging. No one on this board wants anything but the best for you.

What concern to you have about getting a first class Medical? Most 13 year olds I know think they are invincible.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are seriously thinking about an aviation career, it is important that you are able to communicate with all those with whom you will associate. Proper spelling and clear speaking are essential to success in the flying profession as are mathematics and reading. I think that you should get to work on all of the above before you consider a 1st class medical.

Ahhh! That may be so, but we here, can only go by what you have entered while typing on the net.
Therefore, you aren't communicating the fact that you may be an honors student in school.

What Switches is saying, is that one doesn't stop being astute simply because they're on the net.
That not only includes spelling, but grammar, and punctuation as well.
It may come as a suprise to you, that people may have a difficult time reading what you write.

So it is only in your best interest, to show your best ALL the time,
not just in school. You never know, who may be watching....
It could be someone, that wants to advance a 13 year old into the aviation industry...perhaps as a messenger...
or where grammar and spelling count ... such as scholarships to an aviation school...

    Oops! Sorry! You are ineligible...
your spelling, and grammar sucks...( your words) and your math and science scores don't make up for it

The net is a really big place

    Bank robbers steal your money,
Con men steal peoples life savings,
    School bully's pick on people...

..... There, ......are three things that happen to lots of people

But it doesn't make it OK, just because they do it, does it?

Well, the same holds true in this case.
People that seems like loser's, aren't ones to be copied!
because they will not get anywhere in this life.

    Just because teenagers :
"type on myspace im internet and thyre fone they dont using proper grammar and spellin."

that doesn't make it alright, or correct, or acceptable.
Would you rather have (intelligent) people say "HEY! He's a great guy, and smart too",
or "Hey! Stay away from him, he's an idiot!"

The way you present yourself is going to be the way people form an opinion about you.
Like I said before we can only see what you present.

Using what some morons do, as an excuse for your own actions,
shows that you want to be lazy. Success takes effort.
Always strive, to make yourself better.

Cadets that have earned higher rank in CAP,
don't look up to people, and try to be just like them,
if they do not show them how they can be better.

They learn to see the difference, between people that want to succeed,
and those that will not amount to more than "wanna-be's".

How would you like it, if I was teaching you how to fly,
and I didn't say what I wanted, in the correct way?

If I wanted you to stop doing something, and I said... "stamp...stamp...stamp...!!"
you could get both of us killed while trying to figure out, what I really meant.

OK.... it's not life or death here on the net....
but at 13, it does set a pattern for the way you do things in life.
What you do and learn now, will be with you for all of your life.

Be better, than other teenagers. don't have losers as your idols.

You are at the age now where alot of what you do will determine what happens to you in life.

Learn, how to make the right choices!
Get involved with CAP, and see how!
And have alot of fun doing it!

    ( .... and don't lie. even online!
You're not 18, and anyone seeing your cool pic, will know it)

Hold on there young man, and read this very slowly.

    1) Where did I call your "friends" morons?
I said " Using what some morons do, as an excuse.... "
You never mentioned your friends, neither did I.

It seems you have issues with reading skills, too.

    Read what it says.

DON"T READ, what you "THINK" I meant.

    2) If you are worried about predators, you shouldn't be on "Facebook"!

Have your parents read this.... :
    http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/09/ny_facebook.html

Yes, I know that according to the NJ State Police,
there are more than ten thousand, (10,464 to be exact)
    registered sex offenders in NJ.

And, they are NOT all adults.

Do you know how many are teenagers??

Yes, age is private info, so is your email address...
so don't enter any. No need to lie about it.

You have already posted that you live near Ft. Monmouth,
and might possibly be contacted at Eagles View...
You probably go to Wolf, or Meadowbrook, sixth grade,
cause you are too young to go to Shore Regional

......Doesn't take a genius to 'Google' "Ft Monmouth area schools",
    and even get a map!

Your picture is on line for predators to see.. so they'll
know you when they see you, but you won't know them...

How much more info, will you unknowingly give away,
in a conversation with people you have never even met?

See? You've got alot to learn.

Just because you say you're 18, isn't going to prevent a predator from
trying to contact you. They're going to see your picture first...

If you think you are going to fool someone, it will be only yourself, and
    maybe, some moron.

But not a predator, or anyone else.

Once they get a message from you, they'll know immediately.
Your grammar and spelling will let them know!

And yeah, they'll ........"tlk ur tlk, and spl lk u 2!, jst 2 B ur Frend".
    ( it's not so difficult...)

You, won't be able to tell the difference....
    Then.... watch out!

You are just 13, so sit back and LISTEN, to those older
and with more experience in life.

JUST MAYBE, YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING

I think it is nice that Charlie is putting forth his time and effort to give 'iamapilot94' a lot of good advice. So, I'll try to emulate Charlie.

    To iamapilot94 --

First, I am more than 5 times your age so I can certainly be accused of being "out of touch" with young people and the "in things". Perhaps this is so but I do have 9 (soon 10) grandchildren so I have day to day exposure to their world.

I was 11 when I discovered airplanes and became the "pest" at my local airport. If you want to read a short story about my growing up around airplanes check out my web page at http://www.learyfamily.net/bruce.html and you will see that although I loved aviation my eventual career was with computers.

Since I grew up at the airport I was mostly around adults. I learned quickly and absorbed a great deal of knowledge about airplanes and aviation. I could (and did) quote chapter and verse about various airplanes and aviation subjects. I learned that adults did NOT appreciate a gangly, almost teen, telling them things, particularly with a "holier than thou" attitude. The owners and staff at the airport chastised me many times about my attitude and interaction with adults and I gradually learned that I had to carefully earn the respect and friendship of adults if I wanted to be accepted into their ranks. The way that I had to do that was to behave as they did. I could not be a "kid". I had to model my behavior after the adults in my life. Some of my friends did not understand why I was so gung-ho about airplanes nor did they really accept the idea that I wanted to be with and like adults who liked airplanes. But airplanes and aviation was my love.

So, iamapilot94, my point is that if you want to interact with and be accepted by adults then you can best do that by trying to emulate their behavior. Please understand that I am not suggesting that you should give up your teen years but that you should try to enjoy both worlds while understanding that they are different.

As I grew up I learned that the people who most influenced my development and my career ambitions were generally 20 to 40 years older than me. This was true at the airport and later in my computer career. Bosses were always older. I had to impress the boss and I could not do that by behaving in a manner other than that which they knew and expected. I believe the same things are true today. I don't think that many of the people in management today have much knowledge about facebook nor are they likely to be big users of IM. It is these people, though, who have the greatest say in the future of people subordinate to them.

I agree with Charlie that you would be well advised to try to interact with the adults in your life in the same manner as other adults interact with them. It really is important that you be viewed by adults as being a young adult, not a kid, and that you understand and can function in both worlds. If you can do that you will have learned a very important "fact of life" that will help you forever.

I wish you the best in your career ambition. Perhaps some day I will be riding in an airplane that is under your control.

A few lighter thoughts now --

In the pilots lounge at the airport we had various pictures and memorabilia on display. I shall always remember several of these. First, a carton drawing showing a pilot sitting in an open cockpit bi-plane with his neck looking like a cork screw and the caption "Look around, a mid-air collision will ruin your whole day". Second, I remember a poster that said "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old-bold pilots". Third, I remember a poem that was framed on the wall -- "High Flight" by John Gillespie Magee Jr. It begins "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings". I think you might enjoy reading the whole poem and I'm sure that you can find it on the Internet.

    Best of luck to you.

    Well, young fellow,
    First, apology accepted.

    Then....
There's something else that you'll have to learn.

One does not have to be a pilot to read these messages.
One does not have to be an av-chat member to read either.
Only NEED TO BE A MEMBER to post...

There are, as I'm sure you already know, "Bots"
that can search the internet for specific words....or combinations of characters... and they do it automatically.
    Words like :
< school, 13, finals, games, 2b, > and other words that teens use.
the websites can be accessed and other info gained, such as
your "Trusted info to ppl on avchat", and a link to your facebook pic.

Don't put anything on the net that in any way identifies you, where you live,
and that includes the town etc. As i said, it's easy enough to Google anything.

    Hey! do this.."bot"..,

.... Google iamapilot , see what you get!
It is available to the public on your page,

So the info, on your secret "FACEBOOK" page takes anyone WHERE???!

So much for the fake "Nowhere in the middle of NJ" and the "I'm 18" ... huh???
And... the thread , where you state your age, blah, blah, blah, is readable!

Remember... a little knowledge is DANGEROUS!

    Charlie

and um.... I've been a computer tech for longer than you have been alive....
I've seen alot more than you could even imagine.
Hobbies, and professions, don't keep predators from being predators,
so just cause people are pilots, doesn't mean they can't be a predator!
