Finally started the car today after replacing all the fuel hoses, and coolant hoses, radiator, condenser, fans, and oil cooler hoses. God must love me because it started on nearly the first try. I was completely ready for all sorts of problems, leaks, etc. but man the car started... idled up to temp and the fans turned on and nothing dripped... GLORIOUS! After I noticed a small puddle of oil right underneath the oil cooler. At first I was thinking maybe the oil line I put on wasn't tight enough... but after looking I'm beginning to wonder if it was the cooler itself. I did a smoke test on it before install and didn't get any leaks... so I'm REALLY hoping it's just the hose. But I wanted to post this picture just in case anyone can comment and if you can't I understand. Just seems odd that the oil is pretty far away from the hose and on the cooler itself. But maybe it migrated down from the hose? Hope so. Image Unavailable, Please Login Also... the belts were completely fine at idle. But the squealed occasionally when the car was revved. They're new belts so I was wondering if I had them too loose/tight? Thanks for any help, and thanks for everyone always giving such great insight on here!
Ferrari ancillary belt drive systems suck. The alternator belt needs to be very tight. The oil coolers are very fragile at the fitting and damage during hose changes were very common. When changing hoses I normally cut the fitting off to avoid that.
What Brian said! Also, it is very easy to cross thread the lower hose oil cooler fitting!! Best way to install a new lower hose is to thread the oil cooler side on first and leave loose BEFORE installing the banjo bolt on the block side.
Yeah that's exactly what I did, the block side was easier with the large pin. I went out tonight and tightened it a little and it did turn about a quarter turn so maybe that fixed it... fingers crossed, I'll test again tomorrow.
