We-us & them & you & I - can together work on a desirable electronics package for our electronically deprived '70-'80 cars
Many components are out there now at reasonable prices. Display Heads aren't yet totally integrated but getting close
Some center around rear view mirror display and buttons. Many are wireless which is always a giant plus.

$1k buys a lot of electronics now days, but deciding the right equipment can be a timeconsuming.

    *****************
If anyone is already working a mini-project integrating several pieces, let's hear your status and thoughts.
    *****************

My ideal starter package could include:
    1) Car Bluetooth for cell w/voice transmit command & steering wheel switch.
    2) Car Bluetooth for gps w/voice navigation request & steering wheel switch.
    3) Ear Bluetooth integrating with others.
    4) Forward camera with 1 hour memory stick display in RearViewMirror
    5) 2 Rear camera angled for side lane activity. display in RearViewMirror
    6) Spead readout 2 .8"high led digits - unsure where
    7) 2way radio - ham or GFRS - w/Bluetooth integration
    *******
Cameras and Gps are already mature products, the ideal display would take research for size and mountability
I could live without #4 but find Fuel display of miles remaining or mpg would be interesting and not require much.

So, let's take this thread anywhere positive...recommendations, suggestions.
Brainstorming rules apply=absolutely no negative or disparaging remarks. Post pictures of products you like.
If you don't know how to do that...ask & learn.

We can come up with the 'FChat Future is Now' package. Maybe we could even
setup a conference meeting but Tech Toys fits but we'll snag more contributors
right in FChat Tech-not model specific. I'm excited with the possibilities.
If we standardized on primary design it makes any troubleshooting a group function,
hence much easier activity than everyone fighting their own tech battles.

I am interested.... My kid brother builds all of those "Pimp my ride cars" for Basketball players and such. He knows tons so we can bounce ideas off of him as well.

I had an idea of having video cameras hooked up to a laptop or some such thing for legal/insurance reasons. I'm sure it's easy if that's all you want to do. I guess you have more in mind than just that. I think more than an hour's worth of footage is necessary. Maybe a few days is more like it!

'Black boxes' for cars are way overdue.

I've been toying around an idea similar to a "black box" for a car with a single camera shooting downward into a cone shaped mirror to capture images in 360 degrees. Shock sensors and accelerometers are used to create trigger points for tagging or starting/stopping video recording. GPS signals shows the MPH, precise location of the car continuously. Audio would also be recorded along with the video. Mounting point would be at the base of the rearview mirror. Traditional SD cards for memory would suffice. The unit would also be active during periods of inactivity (car parked on the street) so that any "hit" on the car would also trigger an event recording. A manual record button would be used to record "crazy" driving activity. Youtube uploading capabilities. Maybe even come up with a website that lists and shows the license plates of the top "craziest" drivers with videos. Get some insurance companies to fund the development. Sell ads on the website. It's the next "Bad boys, bad boys...." or "COPS" but on the web! Imagine the court cases you can win or lose with this thing.

Priced aggressively at less than $200!

PM me with more details.....as always, patent pending......:)

I have a couple GPS ideas that I am waiting to see.

A GPS unit that shares and uses shared real-time location and speed data with other GPS devices. Every GPS knows where it is and how fast it is traveling so if other GPS devices could access that information they could plot a better course. Privacy issues would need to be addressed because I don't want to drive down the road broadcasting the fact that I am exceeding the speed limit. Since many GPS units know the posted speed limit perhaps it would never report speeds above the speed limit.

And for people wanting high mileage a GPS system integrated into a drive by wire system in a car. It would know when you were on a downhill section of road and shut down the engine and put the car in neutral. It would know you were coming to a stop sign and would not allow you to accelerate if you had sufficient momentum to get there. It would regulate acceleration so even if you floored it, it would accelerate in the most fuel efficient manner. I realize there are some instances where for safety sake you might need to instantly override the system so that would need to be integrated into the system and I don't think it will ever be installed on a Ferrari.

Not quite sure if any of that is the kind of thing you were looking for.
