I would make sure that they turn over by hand before trying the starter. I would also get some oil or Marvel Oil in each cylinder. And expect the worst.

Pull all the plugs. Spray a small amount of WE-40 or other flammable lubricant in the holes. Turn engine over with a socket/ratchet by hand at the crank, or "bump" it with the starter. Also, spray some "igniter" into the carbs or FI system. Likely it's gummed up and won't be pretty. While grounding a plug, any plug, have someone bump the starter, make sure you've got spark.

Do check the archives as well, there has been several threads on this in the past couple years.

With the cars sitting that long, there may be corrosion on the cylinder walls. If cranked-up, the corrosion might/could damage the piston rings. I suggest you or a mechanic use a boroscope to inspect each cylinder before starting that puppy up!

squirt a good amount of oil in the cylinders through the plug holes. Leave the plugs out, and spin her over with the starter a few revolutions. Repeat a cople of times. On the third try, roll the enigne over with the starter until you see the oil pressure gauge start to move. Now reinstall the plugs and hit the starter. She should go.

Obviously..disconnect the fuel pump (pull the relay) and disconnect the the ignition coils (usually I just remove the negative terminal from the coils) before doing any of the above.

You WILL here clattering from the timing chain area. If it does not go away within a few seconds (count 10 to 15 sec) shut her down. The let it sit, and try again about 5 minutes later..

    Damn,

How come I never meet anybody lke that. Congratulations - assuming the surprises you uncover (and there will be surprises) aren't too serious, you've got two great GT cars at an great price.

All you gotta do now (besides work on the cars) are two things:

    1) Fill out your profile, and;
    2) POST SOME PICS !

    Congratulations,

    Mark

first ---thanks to all who replied
well it was pretty stright foward, taking in all advice i prep it then turned the key -herd the relays clicking the fuel pumps start 10 second crank stop
next try turn the key 20 seconds stop---next try it started-first at low rpm
then about a minute up to 1000rpm steady idle. shut it down check oil ect...
it all looked ok.It fired right up the next time- let i run a little longer noticed
what looked like water vapor coming from the cam cover buy a spark plug hole
then no more-could be the aged gasget that was dry?stopped the motor
check things, found a little water oil mix(white stuff on the bottom of the oil filler cap cleaned it off and ran it for about 20 minutes and nothing more of water oil mix.i willl drain the oil and change filters before i fire it up next to see amount (if any ) of water in the oil. i do not think i am out of the woods yet---he gave me the wrong key for the 400i hes looking for it so its fire up (i hope ) will be a week or two off

the 512bb ( not sure what year or if had carbs, just pumped the tires and pushed it out of the way- it is silver/tan)the guy did not want to sell the car i did try to purchase it
he has a ton of cash and could care less about cars but he was sure
that he did not want to sell (at this time i didnt want to push it)
buy the way he set the price on the 400&412 i would of paid more
but this time i keep my big mouth shut-that worked out so well that i am trying not to talk at all, maby it will pay off too(LOL)
    photos to you all soon
    thanks
    dan
