Looks like the entire rear of one plane ripped off. No one hurt but there needs to be some explaining here... Good view of the tail here..
One comment was that the CRJ was "totaled." Shot from another aircraft passing on the ground. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I got to taxi by it today working an outbound flight, was a sight indeed! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Juan Browne's take on the situation. If the CRJ was stopped waiting for clearance to enter the runway, it was way short of the line it should have stopped at; if it had been in the right place there should have been 40 feet of clearance. If the CRJ was still moving then the A350 should have waited before trying to pass.
I don't know how this "test" thing happened but I am tired of people referring to the ramp or runway as the "tarmac". Tarmac is a contraction of two words: TAR and MACADAM, the material of which most of our roads and TAXI WAYS are made. Tarmac will not support the weight of a jet airliner. It was used as the apron in front of a hangar in the old days. I remember the word "apron" being used when I was in the Air Force as a parking area. Then there was ramp, runway , or pad but I never heard tarmac. Maybe in post WW1around the hangars. Now people call a wheel assembly a "TIRE". They call a wheel a "RIM". I was taught differently but now I'm a grumpy old man.
From the photos it appears to be exactly on the hold line, but maybe it moved forward some after being hit.
