    Hey everyone,

My girlfriend and I just bought this dog but found out our apartment doesn't allow dogs, we need to sell him as soon as possible.

He's adorable, check out the pictures, a medium sized apricot miniature poodle. He has had all his shots up to date. We have had him less than a day, until we found out about the rules, we were told when we moved in pets were allowed, now we are told we are not.

We have a brand new life stages dog crate and food/toys, everything to get going.

Please come by and check him out or ask any questions. We have all documentation of purchase/breeder information etc.

We really need to get him out of the apartment as soon as possible, does anyone know anyone interested?

    Thanks,
    -CT

Have you tried to contact the breeder you purchased him from??
Please do not give that dog to a shelter, you must find him a good home.
Just curious did you ever read the fine print on your lease regarding pets?? And who told you that pets were allowed in the first place?

We are going to find him a good home, I am talking to someone who has several poodles and will take him, but she is quite far away. The person who told us pets were allowed is no longer working here.... funny that eh? We moved in 2 months ago and now she is no longer here. The lease says we can have a pet with prior written permission from management and there is a $400 one time fee to have the pet. But now when I talk to them they say the rule has been no dogs since summer of 2005.

I have been trying to get contact info for the breeder, but we just have a name as it was bought in a store and not from a breeder directly.

    -Thanks, CT

Man, I would never stand for that. If I brought a new animal into my home and was told a day later he had to leave I'd go ballistic.

If your lease says pets are allowed with permission and someone in the management office gave you verbal permission, I'd fight it. He's too cute to give up! :)

Reminds me of a certain warranty company that once wrote a warranty contract to me and then later decided to revise the terms of the contract for their new customers...and retroactively tried to apply those changes to me. Sorry, contracts don't work that way.

I agree totally with Noah. A deal is a deal and that dog looks awesome. Although I am partial and own a dog. If someone told me I had to give up my dog or move out, Id move out.

These are valid points, the lease does have a statement saying we need prior approval before getting the pet, of which we did not have, we just assumed it was not going to be a big deal... Pay the fee and no problems. It just turns out that they don't give approval anymore, so I'm not sure how much we can do about that.

It depends on how badly you want the doggie. If you really don't care that much, then I'd suggest you just forget it. But if you really want the pup...

You can escalate. Threaten to break your lease and move out. You were told by an employee of the management company that it would be OK to get the approval needed, and you did so. If they didn't notify you of the policy change, you can argue that it's their problem.

Jersey City is not the most red-hot real estate market. If you break your lease and leave, it's going to take the management company at least a month and cost them $$$ to find a replacement tenant. It's a hassle & cost they don't want, and I'll bet that hassle outweights the hassle of having a tenant with a pet if push comes to shove.

Again, I'm not suggest fighting for fighting's sake, but you shouldn't have to get pushed around needlessly. There is really no reason you shouldn't be allowed to have a pet in your private apartment -- landlords impose rules like that because they're insanely risk-averse and fear the "damage" to an apartment that a pet would do. I live in a 1000-unit apartment complex on the Upper West Side and our landlord not only allows any pets unconditionally, but they encourage it. They're making plenty of money and the apartments still command a premium and are in great shape, so I'll never again buy into the "no pets" hype...

Well the good news is, it looks like we have a nice couple from MA coming to pick him up :) Their parents have had a poodle before and they both love dogs so I think it will be a great fit!
    yay!

If that happened to me I would keep the dog and sue the
owner or management of the building if they tried to evict me. You signed a lease that said pets were ok and now someone tells you they are not? Bull**** .

In the end, I think it is going to be easier to find a new owner, the management here isn't exactly the 'best' people I have dealt with. It is a 600-700 apartment complex and we had to wait a couple months to get a the spot we wanted. So this particular area is in fairly high demand. Believe me, they would be more than happy for us to leave and have already told us that we have 2 weeks to vacate at no penalty if we are going to keep him.

Oh well, too bad we love the area/apartment/facilities otherwise we would be out of there pretty quick finding a new place... It probably isn't as bad as I work it up to be.. haha
