I plan to purchase a 2-Post "spider" armed lift for my 355F1 spider and my 456M GTA. Most lifts have support arms that are too long for the correct positioning on the cars' lift points. I have heard that you can crack the windshield of a spider if you don't position the lift arms correctly! Can anyone give me the exact spacing dimensions (front to back and side to side) of the four lift points on my cars? I can then confirm with the different lift manufacturers if their lifts can be installed to accomodate my needs. Thanks in advance. BTW, I prefer 2-post vs. 4-post "runner" lift design.

I have never heard any of that. When I installed by twin post is was specifically for my 348. The installers and manufacturer IFU's know where to set the lift for the average car size for that lift. A bigger issue is arm design to fit under low sports cars. If for example the lift arms are from 4" square tube and the ride height is 3.75" you can still use the lift but you need to jack the car a bit to clear the arms or drive up on some 2x6 boards to get some clearance. I have never had an issue getting my arms to any car's factory jack point. Sometimes I don't want to use a factory jack point. There are always alternative places.

on 348/55 engine outs I'm just paranoid dropping all that weight out the back from the oem jack points. I move my forward arms forward just behind and inboard of the front wheel liner. I have never worried about cracking a windshield but I guess it is possible. Those cars are flexi-flyers but why the spiders have bigger boxed unibody at the door sills than the non-spiders.

The previous owner of my Spider said that a small tear in the roof fabric which was repaired, split open again by lifting the car. I don't understand how a windshield was cracked though.

Don't know if this will help for the F355:

The wheelbase on a 348 is the same as a F355. I assume the jacking points are the same.

My F355 side to side dimension came out at 59 inches (at the front jacking points). My car's at the shop, so I don't know when I can check the front to rear dimensions.
