These 2 are rare finds... from what i've been able to find these books were only handed out to people (friends, special purchasers etc.) by Enzo himself... authored by himself as well...

    "Ferrari*RED BOOK"
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=203&item=5117255591&rd=1

and " Le mie gioie terribili"
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=203&item=5117010531&rd=1

way (wayyyyyy) out of my price range.
never actually seen them in real life... anyone here seen/own them that can give an opinion? I would love to hear about them...

    thx

Well, you'd have to read Italian first of all..........LOL!

Those are significant HISTORICALLY, obviously, but you may rapidly tire of Enzo's personal writing style when translated to English, and obviously these are written from the perspective he WANTED you to have of the company....

The PR of it's day if you will. Historical accuracy may be compromised in some instances.....

A poster here in this section, Fchatter Borsari (sp?) has a pretty impressive collection he is selling, and he's in the US.. Check it out! Lot's of Enzo signed items...he was obviously one of the few with access, back in the day.

Ridiculously overpriced!!!! But I guess there's one born every minute.

Now, should the items have been signed by the Old Man himself...

Not sure on these two early titles..

Pilot Che Gente is the title Enzo wrote later in life, I have two different editions of that in English......

I have Pilot Che Gente. I was just curious about the other two books. I have three or four biographical books on Enzo Ferari. The one I'm reading now is the one by Brock Yates which isn't as complementary as some of the others.

I'd love to ready My Terrible Joys but it would have to be in English or I'd just be looking at the pictures.

    Thanks.

I don't have the red book, but I have the other. Good, but not worth the asking price IMO. To those Ferrari people who can afford "whatever the seller asks", the amount would be minimal if he/she didn't already have it.

As a comparison, I have the red-cover, English-language, "Cartier" edition of "Piloti, Che Gente..." which I believe I paid $85 for when it was new in 1985. The dust jacket has a photo of Enzo looking through the intake-trumpet cutout on the open engine cover of what looks like a 312P.

I've seen another English-language edition--a brown cover with a close-up photo of Peter Collins in action--and it had fewer graphics and an inferior translation. (It was more literal, with continual references to a well-known race as the "Thousand Miles".)

Thanx for the opinions/input... much appreciated...

Yeah i agree that they are overpriced but didnt know by how much since i've never seen them for sale... I fully expected to see that they were autographed at that price, but they were not...

(beginning to get the impression some people find themselves with something from Ferrari and they think they can get $$$$$$$ for it on ebay - ie. someone had the odacity to try sell an Enzo press kit - not even the rarest one with the exploded-view-on-the-cover book - for a starting bid of $1000US !!! - c'mon people ... do SOME research on past sales and at least get in the ballpark... noones gotten over $200US!! ...needless to say noone bid...)

i have Piloti Che Gente myself as well and thouroughly enjoyed it along with the period photos and artwork... I realize him writing about his own company would be slightly (!) biased, but getting his own opinions /ideas/thoughts, however one-sided, on topics would be facinating...

Anyways .. just thought i'd give a heads-up to anyone that would want to add a rare find to their collection ...

maybe someone that works at Google would be interested.... :)

Do you have the ISBN #? That's how most booksellers search Out of Print titles.....

I finally tracked down Miller Dynasty the other day, signed by the author and factory shrink wrapped....talk about a home run!

Wasn't $1300, but getting on up there,...........

    hi Speedy,

The book is a good read, particularly the driver section where Enzo reckons nobody is close to Nuvolari and that Fangio was a bit of a nutter who believed in conspiracies being plotted against him.

After you read the book you get a clear picture of who Enzo liked and detested.

Strangely there is no ISBN number in the book that I could find...when did ISBN numbering first appear ?

    this is getting ridiculous...

    http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=268&item=6919221579&rd=1

i remember this being advertised in, i believe, Cavallino a year or 3 ago... apparently the pages are somehow printed on gold leaf (why i am not sure... kinda gives credence to the old saying "just because someone CAN do something, does it mean he SHOULD do it?" The whole idea kinda smacks of tacky-over-indulgence if you ask me...) Anyways.. the original price was somewhere in the 1000 dollar range, if memory serves...

This guy wants 20X that???? good luck...

to sort of let the guy off the hook: i guess he isnt a very motivated seller.. if he gets that price - great... if not, he keeps it

i havent sold anything on ebay... dont know what one pays ebay if something doesnt sell...

hope for his sake its not a percentage..

Sounds like some of those opinions were recapped in "Piloti che gente".

Nuvolari did remain behind the wheel as long as he was able.....

Fangio WAS kidnapped in Cuba, so maybe could be forgiven for that....

R&T had an EXCELLENT article on one of the kidnapper, who became long time friends with Fangio, visiting him just before he passed away.....
