    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A church that wanted to do something special for Hurricane Katrina victims gave a $75,000 house, free and clear, to a couple who said they were left homeless by the storm. But the couple turned around and sold the place without ever moving in, and went back to New Orleans.



    "Take it up with God," an unrepentant Joshua Thompson told a TV reporter after it was learned that he and the woman he identified as his wife had flipped the home for $88,000.

    Can you believe these people? Another example of a small small number of people making everyone else look horrible. Sadly I don't think much can be done legally. What a sham/e! :mad:

    So what's the problem??? They sold a house that was GIVEN to them so they could go home.

    It is obvious they are scam artists. They claimed they intended to stay in the area but NEVER moved into the house that was given to them. The house was vacant from the time they received it in February up until they sold it in September! Read the article and you will see that it is rather clear what their intentions were to completely take advantage of the situation.

    If someone ( in this case several someone's) was stupid enough to give them a house without first verifying their story, too bad. Also the church people have only said they feel like they were scammed they still have no idea if these people were victims or not.

    It was a group of very kind individuals who were doing their best to help a family 'in need' and they trusted that people would not be so horrible in that type of situation. Sure, they should have done their homework, but still...

    It works like this, just because someone at a cash register types in the wrong price on an item DOES NOT mean you should pay the lower price and walk away smiling.
    Regardless, the people never moved into the house. They clearly had no intention of settling down in that city and starting over. It was a scam plain and simple.

    I think they scammed the church by not being honest. The church trusted them. Illegal? Maybe not, but i belive the couple will get thier payback.

    I'm afraid that if another Katrina type event occours that other cities won't be welcoming people from NO with open arms again. Houston in particular.

    Well maybe they were homesick........they were definately resourceful.

    It IS kind of strange that after registering Val's lil' cottage as available with our Church, not one call........it's STILL empty.

    We met a lot of the musicians that had a new gig lined up for the following weekend, none of them were letting it get them down.......

    So it's been an interesting study in human nature....it's still first impulse to try to help someone out....I hope my guy, retired Deputy Rodrigues is OK....he was a friend of Sheriff Sam Lee...he went back almost immediately.....Jefferson Parrish?

    Headline referred to trailers, not residents: In some Thursday editions, a headline on a story about illegal travel trailers said "Kenner targeting 'trailer trash'." The phrase "trailer trash" was not used by anyone quoted in the story and was not intended in the headline to refer to Kenner residents living in FEMA trailers. The headline referred to the trailers themselves.

    We may be a little pressed for time on this trip, I will have wife, mother and one of the kids in tow this time. However maybe we can meet when I go for the king's dinner the first Sat. in Jan.

    My men already have a security plan in place. Complete with a advance team, bomb sniffing dogs, helicopters, armored personnel carriers, and a special tactical vehicle that they won't even tell me what it contains. :) :) I tell ya the things you have to do just to get dinner in New Orleans these days. :) :) :) . Oh John my security chief said if you could get him that background check paperwork back ASAP so he can check you out otherwise you won't be allowed within 100 yards of me and then we would have to have drinks and talk on the cell phone. :) :)
