Just a quick informational post prompted by a set of 2v Weber manifolds with linkage on Ebay for $350. Based on my experience you'd pick up perhaps 20 - 30 hp, much much more if heads ported or carb euro intake cams.

Here is an estimate of what it would take:

    Manifolds...............................$350
    4 NEW 40DCNF-12 @$300.......$1200
    Linkage pieces......................... $90
    Facet fuel pump........................$80
    Fuel line and filter......................$20
    Air cleaners.............................$120
    Gaskets..................................$100

    Total....................................$1960

Could be done in a good weekend. No changes to the ignition system needed, and you would lose some weight from the FI. With new carbs, easier DIY maint. & parts.

    Just something to ponder...

Good "hot rod" tip. Getting them jetted properly could be a chore if you don't have an assortment of parts and experience with Webers.

Does anyone here have a good "starting point" for this?

A 15-20 hp gain is probably about where the carb conversion would come out. QV engine get 20-30 because the heads just plain flow better making the mild CIS cams work a LOT better than they do in the 2V heads.

The 2vi cams are just as bad as the CIS, early carb cams to go with the carbs would be 30-40 hp. And those are the early cams 76-77, not the 78-79 cams which aren't any better then the CIS cams.

I do think 20 is a pretty safe bet, with a VERY noticable increase in low end and throttle response that will make it feel like more (ask the former CIS 911 boys about this). I do think over 20 is possible with clever exhaust and intake strategies.

I think wrt cams, it's the intake cam that is the important one - i.e. if you were pressed for $$, just replace the intake cam with an earlier or re-ground version. And, I'd really recommend removing the thermal reactor time bomb muffler if you still have it and replace it with a straight through free flowing dual system. I like Ansa and individually fabricated, but that's just me.

From my jetting experience, I'd recommend:
    32mm chokes
    140 mains
    190 A/C
    55 idles
    F24 ETs

If you go to the 8 cylinder dyno section of www.carobu.com, you'll see that the carb 3 2v liters can be tweaked really well.

what a small world :) those are my parts, i separated out the whole shebang. as you know I ended up going with a supercharger so the 'carb' conversion has been sitting ever since. i have 'everything' to convert over to carbs except the cams. the carbs are NOS webers and I even have, but not listed, the original trumpets.

If anyone wants the whole package just let me know.

a local F-chatter picked up the Euro cams I had a few months back.
