Maybe nothing to most of you guys, but I just took the Dino for a seriously grueling 200 mile road trip through the mountains of NC and SC. Lovely trip to Flat Rock NC (Carl Sandburg home) with the culmination being a matinee play at the Flat Rock Playhouse (the only state playhouse of NC). All my clothes smelled of exhaust, gasoline and gear oil, my shoulders hurt for lack of power steering and my wife was a TROOPER, obeying the first rule of Dino ridership: "DON'T TOUCH NOTHIN' ". Temp going up the mountain to Caesar's Head hit 230 on the dial and a sure 120 in the cockpit. What fun! I had my daughter on paid call with the truck and trailer just in case, the call never sent out. Car ran flawlessly, a little hard to start hot, but never a hint of trouble. Big thanks to Dave and the mechanic at Algar that built this car, a serious mechanical build for real life use. 6:45 tomorrow AM, it leaves for Charleston to get its first Well Baby Checkup by Karl Troy who graciously agreed to lay a little loving on it. Trailer loaded, ready to go. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well done, sounds like a great trip. The smells are all part of the fun really.Whenever we bring our Dino home to our house, outhe garage immediately obtains the unique smells only a Dino has.Makes you open the garage door at regular intervals just to savour the mixture of smells. We have an Italian 3 day road trip here in the South Island of NZ every second year.We regularly travel 1000kms plus on the run and we have never had #02688 let us down which is more than we can say for some of the later cars taking part!! I have great memories of friends, one with a 166 Inter, the other with a mint 412 both bucketing water out of their trunks after a downpour of rain and having to push a near new 430 off an intersection in Nelson city after it died.Their other car,a 246GTS behaved perfectly which they were not allowed to forget for some time. The joys of owning a special Italian car include happenings such as all of the above incidents.Long live Italian cars, especially Dinos!!
Coming back in I-26 today after dropping the Dino off at Karl Troys in Charleston, I got past by a big bunch of the One Lappers headed to Spartanburg and the BMW plant (#7 on the list) http://www.onelapofamerica.com/currentEvent/Schedule.do?eventId=30 Kind of fun to see. All kinds of cars.
great to hear of your trip - I am currently running in a new engine and am using the dino as my daily driver and have clocked up 1800 miles over the last few weeks. I never fail to be impressed at how practical these little cars are. I can certainly relater to the smells, but did you have any ringing in your ears the next day!
