my 2000 F1 360 has been popping out of gear when shifting - typically from 3rd gear to 4th - and goes into Neutral

My mechanic believes this is an electrical problem as opposed to a mechanical problem. I won't be able to take the car in for service for another couple weeks so i thought i would ask the community if anyone has experienced this problem and if so, what was the cause.

Also, when in automatic mode the car seems to be shifting into the next gear way above 5000 rpms which seems high - any thoughts around when the car should shift to next gear?

Sounds like a clutch, approaching end of life, to me too. If the clutch needs replacement the system warns you by putting it into neutral while driving.

Agree with both above posters -- it's always possible that something else is wrong, but these are the classic symptoms exhibited when an F1 clutch is worn out.

"jumping" into neutral is definately a sign of a worn clutch, however we've also seen brake light switches and engine lid latch issues cause that issue. I had a 360 towed in on sunday once because the micro switch for the engine lid failed and disabled the car in a shopping center.

    Hello,

I had the same problem with my 360F1 (2001).

IMO, here is the list of potential problems (the first ones are more likely):

    1) Clutch is getting worn out and needs replacement (one check digitally the %wear of the clutch), if %wear of the clutch is less than 70%, then it's not likely to be the reason;
    2) F1 pump (part #213264) is wearing out and should be replaced soon (before you end up stuck on the road, as I did...) along with the corresponding pump relay (part #177761 or 170061).
    3) Clutch positioning sensor (part #178060) is malfunctioning (needs to be replaced).
    4) Gearbox Block (part #196918) is cracked and leaking hydraulic fluid and loosing pressure, (the block needs to be replaced).
    5) Hydraulic lines got air inside due to low F1 hydraulic oil level in the reservoir (one has to bleed the hydraulic F1 actuator and power unit).

Consider rerading the following thread, which should be very educational:

Please, post your findings in this thread after your car will get out of the shop.

    Good luck,
    JG.

Agree with above... I test drove a 2001 360 that did the exact same thing and the Ferrari dealer doing the PPI said the exact same thing, clutch.

My 2004 360F1 Spyder was missing gears up and down, not all the time, but enough to be aggravating. It doesn't get driven a lot, typically about 50 miles every weekend. I lose battery pretty rapidly if I don't turn off the battery switch between rides.

A good charge @ 2amps for a couple of days changed the transmission's behavior. Shifts flawlessly. Next step, have the battery checked, and if that is ok, off to the Maserati dealer in St Louis to check the charging circuit.
