Hello, I am selling my 2000 528i 5speed BMW. It is a sport model with the shadow line trim and upgraded suspension. I am the second owner of this well taken care of car which has never been in an accident. It holds a clean title with a little over 124k miles. It has the original paint and the only modification I have done is add window tint, and replace the front canard grills to the black ones. I will try to provide the original grills once I find them. I have owned it for a little under 3 years and while under my ownership, I have replaced the battery, radiator, cooling hoses, oil filter housing gasket, valve cover, and center console cup holders. The motor is sound and the transmission shifts smoothly through every gear. There aren't any tears on the leather or door panels. The headliner is completely intact and the only issue is the right c-pillar fabric is starting to peel off as you can see in the pictures.
Mechanical areas of in need of attention are the front rotors which would either need to be replaced or resurfaced which is fairly cheap, and the front tires either need to be balanced or replaced. Cosmetic areas in need of attention are the right c-pillar fabric which I mentioned before, two small door dings on the left rear door, and the rear bumper clear is peeling off along with a 4 inch diameter circle on the roof. The cloudy headlamps can easily be buffed to shine.
Besides these issues which are minimal, everything else works and operates as designed. And I mean everything! The A/C is ice cold and the heater is toasty. The instrument cluster and radio display are both perfect without any burnt bulbs. There are no check engine or warning lights on this beauty. It has a cassette player on top of the radio and a 6 CD changer in the trunk. The spare is present along with a complete set of tools and the original BBS wheel center cap removing tool. Test drives are more than welcomed. This is a great car with an asking price of $5,500 or best offer.

Sounds like a decent deal for someone looking for a 2000 model.

    Good luck with the sale.

Nice looking car. Curious why you're selling?
Since 2005 my DD has been a silver 1999 528i auto with the same wheels and sport pack (M-steering wheel, slightly lower and firmer suspension). She's now got 145k miles and I can't imagine driving a more comfortable yet taught, sufficiently quick and smooth, or classy looking car.
Sure I miss the satellite radio in our 2011 minivan but other than that it's got all the comforts I could ask for. Memory seats/mirrors/steering wheel, auto up/down on all windows, great cruise control, awesome steering wheel, smooth and responsive 4-sp auto, great brakes (new front rotors are ~$60 from tire rack, don't bother getting them surfaced just replace every 30-40k and use low dust pads), like you said excellent AC&heat, balance and poise like no other car I can think of, and incredible leather interior that looks better than most leather with 1/3 the miles.
GLWS, the E39 is a masterpiece.

Thank you for a great representation of what this car is. This body style (e39) is my favorite among the brand when it comes to the 5 series.
This is probably the cleanest e39 I have come across and would like to keep it but I have a change in priorities. I plan on owning one again sometime in the future so I have that to look forward to.
    Remember guys, this is OBO!

Oh man I love this car, its Montreal Blue right? A really rare color and it looks terrific on the E39s. This is a bullet proof car, I'd love to have mine back. They are among the best driving cars around.

We've owned a 2000 528i since 2003, these are great cars! Perfect size, great ride and handling, still looks like a modern car inside and out even though the E39 was introduced in 1995!

    The 528i's motor deserves a mention. It's a peach.
The V8s (rightfully) get the glory but the M52 straight six is one of the greats as well. Plus the 528 is ~250lbs lighter than the 540/M5 (50/50 weight distr. vs. ~53/47) and has better steering (rack and pinion vs recirc ball).
The V8s may have been designed to cruise comfortably at 150mph+ on the autobahn but the six will still do 140 so US highway speeds are a two-fingers-on-the-wheel deal.

Driving mine I always get a grin from it's near turbine-like smoothness, healthy torque and surging power up to 6k RPM. With a manual trans and less traffic to deal with it'd be even sweeter.

Other than VANOS seal failure (won't strand you but idle will stumble. $750 replacement part from BMW that will eventually fail again, or $60 and a day of your time in a modestly equipped home garage to fix permanently from Beisan Systems) and valve cover gaskets that go every 60k or so it's truly a bulletproof motor.
Changing the oil every 4k or so is a 30 minute/$30 affair with a Topsider vacuum pump, 6qts of Mobil 1 from Walmart and a new filter up top so you don't even have to jack up and crawl under the car.

Here's a pic of mine (desperately in need of a wash, with a buff it glows) next to a new 3er from today. Lower, sleeker, and just plain classier.

I've used an E39 540i as a daily driver for the last 7 years and frankly, this is a screaming deal. Somebody buy this car, E39s rule.

Hey that's my car! Same model and year. I have 176K on mine. Very simple car to repair plus there are so many Youtube videos on it, who needs to see a mechanic? Bullet proof engine. Parts readily available and affordable. I've had mine up to the 130's and its stable. I have been considering a supercharger install, but your 5-speed car seems more fit for this. Thinking...

Mine has the GM autobox with 4.10 rear axle. This is how you move 3500 lbs. like a sports car with 200 Hp.

Sorry but I wouldn't want my price to affect your sale given the fact that we had two similar vehicles on the market. Good luck!
