I'm looking at a 2000 Mexican Beetle, that currently is titled in Illinois since 2001. I would like to buy this car but I think it's not possible to title and insure this car. But how is it that the car is titled in Illinois....? I know that many people take older U.S. Beetle floorpans and drop the Mexican beetle drivetrain and body onto the older pans and then register the car as an "old" car. I ran a carfax and it comes up clean and shows the car titled in Illinois. When I requested an insurance quote none of the companies on-line system would accept the Mexico VIN number. I do have an old 72 Super Beetle project car out in my shop....I suppose I could do the pan swap and stuff.

Any suggestions anyone? Please help me....as I love this car....!

I know someone who registered their Mexican VW in AZ. I will try to locate them and get some info. Can you register the car as a kit Car?

I thought it was almost as easy to register a foreign car in Arizona as it is in Florida (?). I've seen several Non-Motorex Skylines with Arizona titles.
