Theres 2001 Boxster on the market here in Europe and its a too good a deal to be true or to pass . The car has less than 40 000 kms and is up for sale at 25k which is a good 10k less than market value. What should i look for ?
main thing to look for is rear main seal's leaking oil, just look underside you will see if its leaking, Dale.
Buy it, you'll love it! I have a 1998 Boxster - 3 years never an issue not even a small one. Try the top, make sure it works well - takes only 12sec, hold your finger on the button the entire time. Run the car, park it for 5 minutes at least and make sure the rear main seals aren't leaking (they probably won't be), but make sure there is no leaks. Other than that, just the usual stuff to make sure everything's working fine. I'd also look under the oil cap and oil dip stick to make sure there is no antifreeze getting in the engine. (do this after your test drive) Good luck and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
got a 2000 boxster S and love it. Make sure maitenance is done and the RMS(rear main seal) isn't leaking. Quite simply if there isn't any oil on the front side of the engine then no problem. Make sure there isnt any smoke under full throttle...there may be a puff on startup due to the piston head design but that is normal. Check for all window switches operating (properly lowering when opening the door). Also lock the car and make sure it doesn't honk. If it does then the hood/boot/center console/door is open. It has been a bulletproof car for me so far, and I drive it daily. Make sure to get an intake as it makes the car sooo much more fun! Enjoy and post pics.
Make sure the rear main seal's not leaking(they probably wont be) so i take this pic today of a 2002,20,000mile boxster im servicing and now ive got to take another gearbox out,and you say they dont leak Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
so i take this pic today of a 2002,20,000mile boxster im servicing and now ive got to take another gearbox out,and you say they dont leak[/QUOTE] I still stand by my comment Yes, it happens, hence my advise to check to see if it's leaking. But out of the 10's of thousands that Porsche has made, a relatively small amount DO leak. It is something you want to check, it's like birth control they are about 96% effective! P.S. L8Braker, where have you been? Haven't seen a post from you in some time!
too busy working!!!!! buying another house....... I'm back some what haha how is your car doing? any other mods? yes the RMS will happen which is why we both advised to look for what your pictures show. However you have two boxster owners here that don't have the problem, so 2/3 don't so far haha L8tr
If it's any comfort, this is a Porsche approved leak. Even the new Boxsters and 911s leak. Chances are the new Cayman will also have this approved leak...
If you thought the exhaust was worth the money, then you'll love the intake! The intake is 10 times more fun hahaha Trust me you'll love it! I've had nothing but great comments on mine. New house is great!!!!
Dang you Jeremy - Maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas from my wife and have it installed next spring then! I can handle 10times more fun!
Thanks all for the info ! I asked for the SN , the car is in London , its a LHD with German licence plate . Apparently the guy selling it had the car as inheritance.. I still think its a too good deal to be true.
