No, I’m sure it was only raced by a little old lady on Sundays after church and she stayed behind the pack the whole time.
As with the majority of challenge cars after the 355 there is no title and it is not road legal. Sold on a bill of sale. There has been paintwork on front left fender that was a fender bender but it has not had any major hits and frame is undamaged (unlike many Challenge cars). Very much a survivor. Complete engine rebuild including CR pistons, valve job, cylinder head mild porting ,new crankshaft bearings new variators including timing belts and tensioners Gearbox rebuild was an additional $17k. Motor and gearbox were done a few years ago then within the last 4 months I put another $20k in the additional work as noted above.
Does the A/C blow cold ? How do the floor mats look ? Does it come with a warranty ? Sorry.....had to throw out stupid questions to understand how it feels from the other end of the spectrum . My car is pretty modified and i receive dumb questions revolving around a bone stock vehicle . Cool car and GLWS !!!
Can these be made somewhat "road legal"??? I mean, is there a way around this? I think this a steal, unless I'm missing something here...?
Dennis Collins of Fast and Loud fame had his 488 Challenge modified here in Dallas to be "somewhat road legal". Norwoods did some work to it but none of the Challenge cars after the 355 were meant to be road legal. Below is the facebook video of the 488. During the Ferrari Club Drivers Education event at Watkins Glen this fall we drove the Challenge cars into Corning for a street party. Its a tradition they have done for years there. We did have a police escort coming and going (youtube videos are below). The 360 Challenge was much better than I expected on the street and had no problems with low clearance. Steering radius could be a problem in regular traffic and need to plan ahead. 488 Challenge video https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=534239147374664&external_log_id=3a5ff321f1f9e42ca6fb034b8bb9e978&q=488 challenge Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That Market Street Car Show in Corning every September in conjunction with the FCA Watkins Glen track event is wonderful fun. We've been there often with our 575M, 412 and even they allowed our Maserati Spyder!
Then I’ll be the first (straight face) to offer a euro 308 in the mix (at least it’s not a boat or a motorcycle)
There used to be a guy in the DC area who had a Challenge and a road car and from time to time, he'd put the plate on the Challenge and take it out. "The kids love it!" he would say, lol
You really don't want to run a roll bar on the street, for one thing. We had a member killed in a 348 Challenge in a highway accident. But I guess "on the way to a Show" would work for most LEO on a traffic stop. It would be a wreck that would unravel it all. This is a great car, GLWS!!
Yes, You can always find a way to back door it and put a metal plate on it. Go drive around here for ten minutes and you will find a 2002 Corolla, with a fake paper plate. Just put a temp paper plate on it, if you really want to drive it around. If you are involved in a serious accident the insurance company will dig and you will be on your own.
Roll bars can be removed. People die all the time from eating a steak to having a week constitution and dying of fright. One can' live like that....otherwise best stay in bed and die from obesity and heart disease. Went to SoCal to evaluate a 348, foreign spec. Instead, picked up a 4S and drove up very safely from SoCal. .....forget about shipping, forget about miles. Life should not be lived by the timid of spirit.
I eat a truckload of fine steak and I'll pass on a roll bar on the street. (Don't mistake I would drive this car all over, on the street)….I was just making a passing comment when people that don't know "NO titles since 1997" ask a question...LOL! Old thread, car still available??
