This is my first post here but I have been reading the forums for a few weeks now and find all of you guys to be incredibly knowledgeable.

My question pertains to a used 2001 Ferrari 360 Spider (Red/tan, F1). The car has just over 6,100 miles and looks brand new. However, after sending it to a local Ferrari-specialized shop here in NJ, the tests came back showing that only 38% of the clutch life remained. To me, that seems like excessive wear for a car with such low mileage. It is the original clutch in the car. Basically, the car looks great, but with a clutch life that low, I am worried the car was driven pretty hard. Is that number normal?

How much does it cost to replace the clutch? After searching both these forums as well as other websites, I have seen a variation of different #'s. I have not yet spoken with the mechanic who looked over the car. Instead I just was able to read his report.

-I did use the search function on this forum but did not find any of the answers I am looking for. Sorry if I missed a thread.

I don't think you guys will need any more information about the car but if you do, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance

That is excessive for the mileage but it really depends on how it was driven. Cost to replace can vary but I would figure about $5-6K because it may need a new flywheel and it's essential to replace the throw out bearing and sensors.
I would use that as a bargaining chip to get the price reduced as you will need to figure on spending that down the road. If you have them replace it as part of the deal then you may not get all the work done that may be necessary.

You missed loads of threads !

Start by reading the buyers guide at the top if you haven't already

Then try a search on clutch in this section (maybe in titles only)

Clutch costs vary by so many factors : who does it how much they do whether the flywheel needs changing etc etc etc

Clutch wear varies by so many factors : traffic / reverse use / set-up / driving style etc etc - its quite possible there's 10-20000 miles left in it for the new owner if he's careful

If it is the original clutch then it'll have the 3 bolt ring gear. Newer clutches need the revised 6 bolt ring so there is an additional expense there.

Thanks for the responses. From reading around this forum as well as the Tri-state area forum, I have gathered that people tend to like FOLI, Exoticars USA, and Auto Elite. Any others that I am missing?

Also, the PPI reported that the Gauge cluster is not illuminating. Everything works but the back light is not lighting up. At first glance, I did not think much of it but after reading around I see that it's a somewhat common problem but can also cost a lot. Looks like another bargaining chip...
