    I did a search around here and a couple posts said its a high compression motor, not a big deal, but this whistling im hearing in 6th gear, I dont hear it in any other gear. What could it possibly be?

    1.Clutch is 2500 miles old
    2. Major service just done 300 miles ago
    3.Fluids recently changed

    Is this something major that I need to run to a mechanic soon or is this quite common? I've only had this car less than 2 months and its otherwise excellent in every way.

    If the noise only happens in 6th gear, then it is probably related to the transmission. How many miles are on the car? Does it do it at the same road speed (MPH) in 5th gear? If not, I would say that it is wear or damage to 6th gear in the transmission. Have someone who had driven other 575's drive the car to see if it sounds abnormal. Otherwise you are looking at a transmission rebuild/replacement.

    the car has 20,400 miles, I just bought it with 20,100 miles. You really think the transmission could have an issue at 20,000 miles? The car has been serviced regularly, I have all its receipts from day 1. It makes a slight whistling noise as well in 5th gear but no other gears make noise, but most noticably in 6th gear.

    Ok just drove it now, no error lights on the dash. The car drives perfectly fine, it makes no noise in any of the gears except in 6th gear when I tap the gas it makes a whistling noise. Im going to try to take into the dealer tomorrow if they have room for me, this is my first ferrari and ive driven it barely 300 miles, I can't tell if this is a normal noise or not, but it makes it in no other gears thats why its throwing me off

    Looking through receipts now, clutch changed + remove and install gearbox & torque tube + performed actuator bleed & center at 17,498 miles and car is at 20,490 right now. Could it possibly be that its due for a gearbox service?

    Have them check the internal bearings in the torque tube before you spring for big money. TT bearings are not related to 6th gear only problems, but more engine RPM, nevertheless it's good to check them.

    Very early 2002 like mine seem to develop a 6th gear problem. Mine got noisy but no whistle.replacement cluster was slightly thicker than the original 6th cluster. 6th was walking and rounding off the teeth. Ran really HOT. fine after much flushing and the new cluster.

    In all the years of driving I don't think I have ever got her into 6th gear, not even on the freeway. Nothing ever good happens in 6th.:)

    Bruce- I did not see any changes for the pinions for 6th gear on the 575M. They are even used on the 612 and 599 with the same part numbers. Do you have any details on the part numbers of new and old?

    The only big change I was aware of on the 575M transaxle was an improved retention system for reverse gear very late in production.

    Throwout bearing should be IMO. Best friend had the same issue but in 3rd gear, distinct whistling sound (not on a Ferrari mind you)

    We will find out saturday when I take it in, I hope its not too expensive, I just bought the car and the PPI showed nothing! Ugh

    Whistling sound + tapping gas could be vacuum leak somewhere. Why only in 6th gear? Could it be because of lower engine and exhaust sounds?
