2003 BMW Z4 Roadster https://shiftgate.com/auction/2003-bmw-z4-roadster-3-0i-6-speed-manual/ Auction Ends March 18, 2022 at 5:45pm Eastern History Z stands for “zukunft” in German, which translates to “future” in English, and covers the line of roadsters and coupes BMW has been producing for more than 30 years. The funky Z1, with doors that slipped down in to the sills, kicked off this Zukunft lineage back in 1989. With only about 8,000 produced, it was the mid-90s Z3 that became BMW’s first mass-produced roadster. A successful effort, nearly 300,000 Z3s were sold over a seven-year run. In 2002, the first-generation E85 Z4 roadster replaced the Z3 with dramatic new bodywork, a larger footprint and broad use of aluminum to keep weight down. It came with a 2.5L straight-6 but could be ordered with a more potent 3.0L variant like the example up for auction today. The Z4 was engineered for agility and handling, an intent borne out by the Macpherson front strut and multi-link rear suspension design. Though an automatic transmission was available, the 6-speed stick featured on this car is the one you want for putting that engineering to the test. Exterior Finished in Sterling Gray Metallic (472) with a gray soft-top, this 2003 Z4 looks incredible from every angle in the extensive gallery. The distinctive design, short overhangs, muscular rear haunches and integrated rear spoiler give this Z4 a strong, athletic stance. Twin Spoke (Style 103) 17” cast-alloy wheels look new and are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza rubber sized 225/45 all around. Headlamps are clear, the top appears to be tight fitting and undercarriage photos show clean surfaces. Features include heated, auto-dimming and power-adjustable side mirrors, integrated fog lamps and heated windshield washer jets. There is no rust present on the car nor any history of paintwork or bodywork per the owner. Minor paint chips are detailed in the gallery as is road rash on lower front lip. Finished in the famous beige color, the car presents in beautiful condition, with only a small amount of rust appearing near the right-front bumper. The brightwork sparkles well and appears to be straight overall, similar to the body panels. The glass looks to be clear and free of major blemishes and the original hubcaps and grille make the signature Mercedes statement of elegance and simplicity. Interior The two-tone cabin theme features black Oregon leather-trimmed seats set off by brushed aluminum trim. Wear can be seen on the driver’s seat bolster and bottom cushion. Both seats feature power-adjustability with memory settings on the driver’s side. Carpeting, dashboard and door panels are all finished in black, the latter of which shows scuffing on the driver’s side. Wrapped in leather, the 3-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer with inset digital odometer and 7,000-rpm tachometer with inset fuel level and coolant temperature gauges. Powering 10 speakers and 2 subwoofers, the original BMW Business CD stereo sits above controls for the automatic climate system. Additional features include a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, cruise control, Z4 floor mats and BMW doorsill covers. This car was built with the Convenience package that added an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing windshield wipers and automatic headlight control. It was also optioned with the Premium package that brought a power-operated convertible top and seats. Mechanical Sitting in the clean engine bay is the original 3.0L M54 inline-6, an upgrade over the base 2.5L variant, making 225 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque when new. Technical highlights include Double-VANOS variable valve timing and a dual-resonance intake system. It pairs with a 6-speed manual sending power to the rear wheels and was most recently serviced three months ago when an oil change was performed. Details Located in Levittown, Pennsylvania, this 2003 Z4 3.0i roadster shows just 14,200 miles on the odometer. The original owner, in Florida, sold it to her nephew whom the current owner purchased it from one year ago. Since then, 200 miles have been added to this unmodified Z4. An in-depth gallery details the pride of ownership the car has benefitted from. Two keys and factory documentation with a BMW folio are included in the sale as is the original window sticker showing a new price of over $43,000. Lightly used and meticulously maintained, this 2003 Z4 features BMW’s famously smooth straight-six motor and equally excellent 6-speed manual.
