I have a 2004 360 Spider. We just replaced both potentiometers and installed a new clutch. Normally the car shifts perfectly. Lately, several times as the Reverse handle on the pedestal is shifted backwards to put the car in reverse it has not been engaging as it should...Does anyone have any thoughts about why it doesn’t engage each time? Thanks

Is it reverse not engaging or the lever ? There's a common fault with the internal pins breaking off but usually that causes the dash light to come on - many threads in the 360 section about replacing the bracket with the stronger Hill item (eg from Ricambi)

Grayboxer, The reverse lever moves back “normally” but the gear does not engage.
    Thanks

PIS set to tight can cause this especially if it occurs more on a hot engine/clutch then when first started cold, it will manifest itself in reverse first.
Did you bleed the shift actuator and perform a centering and self learn after you serviced the potentiometers and the clutch?

There is a microswitch in the gear selector panel for reverse, but I don't know if it is a known problem. You could pull the panel out and try checking the resistance of the microswitch circuit at the connector.

In theory, the resistance across pins 4 & 5 of the panel should be:

4,900 ohms with reverse not selected
    1,000 ohms with reverse selected

Pin 4 corresponds to the blue/black wire on the car harness. Pin 5 corresponds to the white/black wire.

When you pull the lever, is there an attempt to shift, does it make sounds at the gearbox? That would indicate a set up issue. If it makes no sound at all, that would indicate a shift lever issue.

When shifting it makes no sound at the gearbox or any where else.

Does the gearbox go into reverse key on but the engine off. If it goes into 1st and reverse with the engine shut off it is not a lever issue.
