Looking at an 04 575M that had it's ignition canister, both door locks, immobilizer, and keys replaced.

Is it normal for these cars to sometimes hear the starter taking several seconds and no start? The salesman told me that if you unlock the car and leave the doors open for a few minutes (as we did), that it won't start right away when you try to. The solution (as told) is to re-lock the car, unlock it (all via the key fob and the alarm), and then try to start again - at which attempt it fires up immediately as expected.

    Is this normal?

Take a look at the light on the dash - if it is blinking red then the immobiliser needs re-dis-arming

Or to put it another way he might be telling the truth

If you unlock the door and do not start her within 2 minutes, the immobilizer arms. If you drive her, the immobilizer arms 60 seconds after you remove the key and open the door. To disarm the immobilizer, it is not necessary to relock and unlock her. Just a single push on the fob will disarm the immobilizer.

To keep myself from looking like a dummy, I lock her whenever I get out, even at the gas station. That way when I unlock her, I also disarm the immobilizer for 2 minutes.

Read this, it will cure insomnia.

I leave mine unlocked in the garage and at car shows. Hit the remote and it disarms and starts up instantly 100% of the time... well, there was that time I had a dead battery cell. :)

    Cheers,

Thank you for the quick and informative replies, gents.

Pardon my disastrous spelling mistakes in the title, I was in a bit of a rush, lol.
