hi All, looking for opinions on the 575 and what would be the best exhaust to go for... Fiammenghi? Capristo? Tubi?what does everyone have installed on their 575? looking for an increase in sound to actually hear that V12 roar!!
Well I just replaced Tubi straight pipes with switchable Fiammenghis so that's where I put my money and happy with the choice (late 575 with straight centre pipes).
I’ve got bradan straight center and remote Fiammenghi rears on my 550 and also couldn’t be happier. If I wasn’t worried about the CA smog police I’d also add Fabio’s full headers and race cats
I would suggest that you do not waste any time with any aftermarket mufflers only as they will do nothing but make the awful nasal sound caused by the stock headers, on full load, worse. The only way to get a "proper" V12 sound is to fit Fiammenghi 6-1 headers, IMO. I still do not understand though what Ferrari got wrong with the exhaust design as other V12 cars like the Murciélago has 6-2-1 headers out of the box too but they sound magnificient without the need for 6-1 headers. Lots of folks think they will get away with mufflers when the only answer is the headers. I do not think anyone has tried Fiammenghi headers only with leaving the rest of the exhaust stock but I bet the engine will sound better already.
Tubi by itself sounded like a moped, added the Bradan straight pipes made a world of difference, I love the sound of my 575. It can be loud just got my first noise ticket after 15 years. I live in south Orange County and if it wasn't for these damn Harleys in Laguna they probably would never have started enforcing it so much. Sound is very subjective
Ugh I DISPISED the Tubi on my 575. It came with the Gen2 installed and it sounded awful. Everyone who heard it only had one comment: "I guess it is loud?" V12 have a Devine balance and tone which was robbed by the Tubi (IMHO). I was so happy when I sold them for cheap. I went with Fiammenghi/Fabio's handiwork and could not be happier. I liked it so much I also have his bypass pipes on my 456 (also sounds much better then the original setup with midpipe deletes on that car) and am working with him to design a cat-back valved system for my E31 850.
This is basically how Tubi mufflers sound on a car with an otherwise stock exhaust, with more medium and bass due to the extra cc of the V12 engine. This is barely exaggerating.
Oh c'mon... its not THAT bad. I have Sport cats, Capristo straight pipes and 550 Tubis (the loud ones) adapted onto my car.
I have nothing against Tubi…actually favor over capristo on the TR The 456 with its longer pipes has a different sound; unlike the 559/575 its response to mid pipe delete sounds completely different: deeper on a 550/575 but more tin-y when I did the same on my 456.
You know what, I don't have an exact answer for you, as Fabio and I were emailing back and forth, I let him pick between the two different materials and he settled on Titanium
I wonder if Inconel is another huge step in price and tougher to weld? When @white out was doing his epic build thread....I had to sit down when he noted his fab guy had 80 hours into his wicked looking stainless exhaust with titanium tips. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/147219892/ From an uneducated standpoint on my end, I'd have assumed....Stainless then Titanium then Inconel price wise? Either way, will love to hear how it goes with the special Fabio project.
Titanium is extremely hard to weld (need O2 free chamber). Technical skill + cost of materials makes it so pricey. Best for pipes/cat back. Inconel is heavier than Ti but also stronger. Better for headers or cat housings. Both lighter than SS. On a GT car…eh. This from the guy who has crazy $$$ dumped in mods on all my cars.
I should add…. I do think there may be a role for inconel for headers with some kind of additional heat mitigation to compensate for the loss of the dual wall construction on their associated excellent heat mitigation for the engine bay. I think that represents a viable use case scenario that can theoretically justify the cost. Saving a handful of pounds with titanium is entirely meaningless though on a 550/575/456, especially that low on the body and generally speaking that distribution relative to the center of mass. If weight savings is the goal, for comparable or potentially even less money just get a set of carbon fiber sports seats. You will Save more weight and more weight from a better location….
My Ti catback exhaust dropped 92 lbs off the car. Downpipes in stainless with X-pipe dropped 17lbs. 550 exhaust manifolds dropped 9lbs over 575M. Seats, 2 piece lightweight brake rotors and wheels are an easy way to shed weight, although not the cheapest options. Antigravity battery is the easiest way.
The factory exhaust is honestly comically heavy no doubt. The real question is how many pounds one saves over equivalent stainless system and how that compares the cost difference between Ti and SS.
