2004 gallardo recall and findings...

I live in south Texas and took my gallardo to the closest dealership to do the infamous recall. I received a call that I needed a clutch and had the rear main seal was leaking also filter return pipe seals and other list of components. The clutch felt fine to me and I never seen anything leaking in my garage or driveway prior to taking it in. The total list of items that needed repairs came out to $14,100, did not seem right to me since the car had been running just fine. After the recall was performed I took the car to a reputable independent shop in the Houston area known by others on this site and other forums that were highly recommended. I basically paid for PPI and for them to look into the specific items I was told by dealership that was needing repairs. Indy shop got back with me and told me the clutch was at 80% life left and car had no leaks and only needed the exhaust grill repaired. The list of infractions I was told was completely false. This Indy shop also told me Im not the first one to come in there asking for a second opinion, and that dealer has been trying to sell clutches and services that do not need to be performed. I paid under a thousand dollars for it to get inspected and fixed an exhaust issue that really existed at this Indy shop vs the 14k for bogus claims. The Indy shop I went to was very honest and I appreciate their work and they know exactly who they are! If you live in the Texas area be aware of these false service recommendations by the dealer and get the car looked at by someone else and get that second opinion before opening up your wallet.
