I am amazed at how affordable gently used QP's are becoming and am considering a 2005-2009 or so as a daily driver. I don't really know the cars though. What should I be looking for or looking to avoid? Any reason I shouldn't consider one as a daily driver or pitfalls with trying it?

If there is a thread already that I missed please point me in the right direction.

    Thanks,
    John

They are fine cars. I would avoid the early DuoSelects and choose a true automatic (2007+?). They are a bit underpowered until the 4.7 came along.

If you like them, find a quality one and enjoy,

Yup. Go with the auto version. I'm really close to buying this one.

Thanks guys. So the 4.7 started in 2009 right? I'll see what I can fit in my budget.

so is the consensus that the cars a good dd's? how much are they to operate annually if 7-10k miles was the usage?

    assuming the true automatic box.

I sold my 07 QP last year after using it as my DD for a few years (will look into new QP or Ghibli soon, although the coming Levante sounds great too - DD of course).

    About 15,000 miles a year.

First I would recommend a late 07 and after. Why? Because they came with the ZF automatic transmission. Which means no need to think about clutches and expensive repairs if you are within a budget. The ZF is wonderful and used in high-end German cars too.

From late 07 because the manual transmission was in the early 07 models (not the late 07 models).

I loved driving it and did not have any special problems. The car is meant to be driven. The issues I had were with the battery (it died once, Maserati is known for this) and the engine light coming a few times (but simply related to the gas cap). Overall a dependable car...

But...it is dependable if it is well maintained (like Ferrari, ...). So, plan a few thousand dollars a year for maintenance (done by professionals).

The more you drive the car, the better it is, it is not a garage queen, Maserati makes cars nowadays (like every brand) that are good to be driven on a regular basis.

I live in Florida, so the car never saw any snow or cold.

A negative is that things like bluetooth, iPhone connections, GPS, ... are not up-to-par with recent cars.

Buy a car only after having a PPI performed by a professional (it will save you money down the line).

QP brought me a lot of smiles every day. Just imagine walking to your garage and looking at the sexiest four-door body in the world, simply gorgeous. Then turn it on and listen to the sound of the engine (special, unique, amazing).

Bottomline, it is a car that you can use as a DD without problems as long as the required maintenance is done and as long as you have a PPI done in order to see potential issues before a purchase.

+1, with the following notes. I've had my 2007 ZF Auto for two years now and it has been my DD. Very useable with the exception that when it does need service, the repair options and turnaround time are not the same as the German cars. There are known weaknesses with power window mechanisms and cam variators similar to the 360's, but I've heard it's more of a problem with the 4.2 vs the 4.7. Lots of information over on ************.com.

(I don't know why my link was rejected? Span filter, website policy? Anyway, there's another website out there that details having a MASERATI in your LIFE.)

Overall I'm very happy with mine and no plans to replace it anytime soon. I wish it were a little smaller with a real manual gearbox, but the styling and curb appeal are miles ahead of an M5 or MB AMG (based on my own opinion and the feedback I get from others).
