Looking at a 2005 red with tan F430 6 speed. 17000 miles. Maintenance up to date, no accidents, clean car, clean PPI. New tires, new clutch. Whats a good price, what should I offer. THANKS

120,000-125,000 max. Any higher and you could have yourself a spyder. In 2009 I bought an '07 F430 coupe red/tan F-1 with 5000k for 149,000. The higher mileage and 6 speed should bring the price down a little bit. Good luck with the purchase.

That's a proper price for the F-1 and the lower miles. Congrats on the car. They are amazing.

I agree on the first point, completely (as in 180 degree) disagree on the second...

A similar question came up recently where I commented I thought my 05 with 3 pedals and 19K on it was worth about 110K. I promptly got 3 private messages from people wanting to buy it (it's not for sale). Based on this experience, I have to say 110K is not enough.

I hate saying it, but that is a lot of miles in most peoples (not mine) heads for a Ferrari. I think you should offer 115 and hope for under 120. Check yahoo autos, there are several cars under 120 now, and those are pre negotiation prices.

That said, if you found the perfect car, it is local and you can see it, I would pay 5k for that benefit. Get exactly what you want, even if it costs a little more.

I think you are all way too high, 100k sounds like a good buyer/seller compromise.

Check with a wholeseller to see what he would pay cash for a car described as above, and I think you will have a reality check.

125-130 maybe was the price 12 months ago not now.

    Good luck.

There are no F430's being sold for $100k right now...i think the CHEAPEST you can get one is for $108k and that is over 22k mi. I have a wholesale license and attend the auctions as I am looking to get one ASAP...one sold way under at an auction for $98k, the guy cleaned it up and has it listed at a dealer for $129k, and said he will not take less than $120k... everything else at the auctions is $105k-$130k depending on color and miles... This is all what i have seen since september...

To the OP, what are they asking for the Car?

Several cars under 120 now? I just checked yahoo and there is only ONE black, 6 speed with 23k miles. Why did you say several cars?

I agree with you on the 6 speed pertaining to certain cars, but not the F430. I think that almost all buyers, with the exception of a few, only want the F1 transmission for that car. The factory option was an expensive one and it seems that many modern F cars with 6 speeds sit longer than their F1 counterparts. The 599 is a good example of this. I have seen certain ones sit for very, very long times. I think the 360 is a great example of 6 speeds not changing the price. If I were to buy a 360 I would go stick, F430, F1.

Right, when I looked the other day there were seven 430s under 120k on yahoo autos, which is the same database as cars.com. I have manheim access and the few cars there are not priced any better. IMO, those cars might go for 112 but no way 100k. I will bet it'll be closer to next fall before the first 430s start selling for 100k.

I think at best it's parity, but if not already the sticks will bring more than a comparable F1 in the near future (i.e. 1-2 years max) in my opinion- the factory isn't making sticks anymore and that's part of the reason. The F1 in an 430 is much better than the F1 360 which is much better than the F1 in the 355, but in the used market there will always be purists that don't care about the ultimate technololgy/performance/gadgets and will want the increased involvement of a stick for the special things like executing a perfect heel/toe that is lost with the F1. That is what happened with the 355 and 360's (although much of that was also due to the teething problems with the 355 and 360 F1 systems).

The 599 is not a good example to use, as the desire of people to have a stick in a GT is not as high in the mid-engined V8 models. The stick 599's have sat- different market and different car.

+1. I get people who want to buy my three pedal 05 regularly even though it is not for sale. Ferrari did not make many stick shift 430s. It is inaccurate to call F1 an option. Two pedal and three pedal cars were separate models with separate allocations. Locally I know at least one new buyer who wanted but could not get a stick so finally threw in the towel and bought paddles. Used buyers do have a different mindset.

I sure hope you are right. I really want a gated 430 as my next car but I'm unsure of resale ability (not so much on price, but more basically can I sell it if/when I want to). I've seen a few gated cars sitting for looonnggg periods of time this year on dealer floors...

Its so odd, this matter. I know if I try the "hey, sticks are harder to sell, you should be happy I'm making an offer" routine at the dealer, they will respond with the "actually, sticks are more rare and thus more expensive". And, of course, OTOH, they will say F1's are an expensive option and everyone wants one in their 430 if I tried to get an F1...

I don't really care what the price differential/premium is (it can't be much and its very debatable as to which shifter is higher or lower value)...so I'll get the one I want to drive....but, with the gated shifter, I do have a nagging worry that I may not be able to sell it when/if I want/have too...

Any first-hand experiences with selling a gated car?

    thanks.

Personally, only with buying one and a 360 at that. It took me over 6 months and I had to buy my car from 1,200 miles away. They made more F1's and in my experience the % of buyers that would want a stick vs. F1 goes up as the car gets older (355/360/430)- as a smaller % of 360s had sticks and smaller % of 430's than 360's had sticks, supply and demand take over. New the F1 cars had a sticker that was probably $10K higher. A couple of years out they were worth the same in my opinion...as they age more, the sticks become worth more for actual transaction prices is my guess/opinion based on what I see.

I know there are other's like me- in a real world example, if I were to upgrade my 360 to a 430 today in late 2010 and there were two IDENTICAL mileage/condition/optioned used 430s for sale sitting side by side, I'd want the stick and I'd be willing to pay more money for it.

A further thought is, in my opinion as a percentage of purchase price, the % for stick is higher for a clean 360 (many variables, but on average i'd say as high as $10K more) and even higher as a percentage for 355 (if same $10K applies to lower purchase price of a 355 vs 360).

    Very well said Andrew.

It seems as though in the present the F1's yield more/sell a bit quicker but as time goes on the sticks seem to be sought after. Maybe its a function of the stories they here from the past about F1 systems. This is pretty common with the 355. From what I've read/ heard from owners and articles that specific car is better suited with the stick. As a first gen F1 box it was bound to have its glitches and it does, but many still buy them. Once again it all comes down to personal choice and preference.

If I had to do it again I would probably go with the 6 speed. Although the F1 is smooth and precise, shifting your own gears is much more involving. I feel there is a lost connection between the car and the driver, even though I can never outshift it :)

In retrospect, I would also choose 6-speed manual, because that 360F1 hydraulics is so "capricioso" ! I enjoy my other Ferrari (Testarossa) manual shifter so much more, because you really feel connected to your car!

    Cheers.

By the way, I'm not meaning to "diss" F1 355/360/430s- they are all still awesome cars!! I'm just saying in general the sticks are not "less desirable" they are in general "more desirable", and will continue to be going forward. An F1 355 for instance is not an undesirable car in the least! I was just clairifying some of my thoughts for the person who asked if an F1 430 would be harder to sell and of course as many of us do here on f-chat got carried away in my own thoughts :)
