    this according to Forza magazine's May 2006 issue;

    "maserati sales almost doubled in north america, with 2,100 cars delivered compared to 1,114 in 2004. of those 2,100 cars, 1,550 were quattroportes."

    what i'm reading is that sales of the spyder/GT fell from 1,114 in 2004 (as there were no quattroportes built in model year 04') to 550 in 05'. i really want maserati to succede in the U.S. they are a storied manufacturer with a rich racing history and some fantastic sports cars (the 1980's not withstanding) i'd hate to think their success here is soley hanging on a sedan.

    just my $0.02

    i m extrapolating here: 550 Coupe/Spyder/GS/90th Spyder.
    we know there are 90 anniversary spyder, and someone reported 127 GS. so that's 333 coupes/spyders.

    you are correct. they need to bring their new coupe/spyder out. the line is aging and the GS, GS Spyder, GS MCV, and (supersport) are just there to keep interest in the line.

    their competitors are all brand new: 997, V8 Vantage, M6...

    too bad with the internal changes. i guess the rumored coupe/spyder will become the rumored ferrari dino... and who knows what maserati will have.

    i'd say, a reskinned Alfa Romeo 8C (4.3 V8 supercharged (430 bhp), RWD, 500 units) sharing the same platforms, etc etc, would make sense now. who knows.. may be it is shared with the dino and maserati from the beginning.

    The coupe/spider really needs new blood infused. For 90k it HAS to stand out of the crowd. Continued refinement of the gearbox helps, people buying it as a GT don't want to be subjected to harsh shifts on the morning commute. It seems a great car that just gets a bit lost in the crowd.

    Wow, that's a very tiny number for coupes compare with how many Porsches 997 are sold. I guess the coupes are not attractive at all to the market.

    I still love the Grand Sport over a Porsche. What a glorious engine sound.

    I agree very much. It is really time for something new for Maserati.

    I was at the local Porsche dealership yesterday, and when I was look at that beautiful new turbo, I thought of Maserati and how it doesn't really seem like they have a very good chance against this thing.

    BTW Has anyone else seen the new Cayman S? My uncle just got his delivered a few days ago. I know it's not really up there with the Masers, but it is very nice.

    i didn't know the 997TT are in the showroom already. their turbo's have been the benchmark for many years for 'useable' exotics. but honestly, it looks the same to the rest for the past decade. certainly there are the subtle details that you can spot, but it really looks boring.

    the Cayman is just a Boxster Coupe. i was surprised by the guts the germans have now on the outrages amount of options they have.

    I'd still rather take a Maserati than a Porsche 997 for the exclusivity as much as anything. Both are good cars.
