Some very nice cars there -- that guy Robert has a SICK collection on display: Enzo, 430 Spider, Superamerica, Ford GT, and a Diablo Roadster... nlh
Thanks for the pics! How was the attendance today? Friday and Saturday were a little slow. Looks like the variety of cars there are great and especially the 1955 Ferrari 375 America originally bodied by Pininfarina for Fiat Chairman Gianni Agnelli. Which car there was being the "first ever" ferrari sold or made? I know of course that Jim Glickenhaus owns it but he said he wasn't showing anything. They again mentioned it in an article in the brochure. Anyone know? Evan
It was slower than I would've expected today. It made it great for picture-taking and really getting up close with the cars and their respective owners though. That guy Bob really did have a killer collection on display. It was funny, at one point he was revving up the enzo which drew a crowd. Then the owner of the vintage v12 ferrari f1 car about 50 feet away did the same which just sounded spectacular. Afterwards, the f1 car owner remarked that he didn't push it past 4500rpm and that we should hear the thing at 11500rpm. Quite a little sideshow.
He mentioned to me that he left his Carerra GT at home. He wasn't kidding...... He also mentioned the Enzo was his favorite from his stable. Fun license plates too....
The earliest Ferrari I saw there was an absolutely gorgeous 1949 166MM. Hard to believe that car is 56 years old. It looked like it was brand new. Immaculate.
that guy Robert is the guy who was in an issue of either Car or Evo (can't remember which it was) a while back, in which he drove his Enzo around the streets of Manhattan. It was a great article. The picture of the Enzo in Times Square is the cover shot if I recall correctly.
Oh boy I'm slippin... the name sounded so firmiliar at first and asked myself how do I know that name??. Anyways I remember now and actually spoke to him about insurance for my show. He owns 2 Bentley GT's and i sure people can go on and on about what he got. Thanks greg for getting me back on track. Did you go to the event today?
Heh...yeah I was upstairs when that happened. I kept thinking to myself "if this is an F1 car, there's gotta be more to it than that" -- and the 4500 rpm would confirm that. nlh
It was a very nice show today and it was easy to get decent photos because the crowd was moderate. I was there from 12:30 until just after 2 and the light was pretty harsh for picture taking, with the sun behind a lot of the cars as they were lined up. The rink is not a very good place to display cars. The setting isn't very elegant and the concrete surface refected a lot of glare and light onto the cars, making picture taking more difficult. However it was possible to get right next to the cars and to look inside the interiors. Many had their doors, hoods and trunk lids open for excellent access. No velvet rope barriers like at the Louis Vuitton shows at Rock Center. A lot of the owners stayed close to their cars and seemed very happy to talk about their cars, often showing booklets of their car's history or restoration to anyone who seemed to show an interest. It was great to talk with Jack Thomas, the owner of the Gianni Agnelli 410SA and to hear his story about the restoration and hear the features of that unique car. Overall there was an impressive array of cars on display, several of which had come from quite a distance. For example the 330 LMB GTO usually lives in England and it was great to have an opportunity to see it in the Northeast. A couple of the Alfas came from Italy and seemed right at home, as did the Lamborghinis, even though it was "Ferrari Sunday". For once there was a program book for the show that was worth something, with some real content and not just ads. I hope that the show was successful enough that we will see it again next year and in years to come. John
Just got home from my trip to NYC to see the Central Park Concours, Saturday and Sunday. Very nice event, the weather was absolutely incredible, the cars that did show, were very nice. The spectator turnout was probably not good for the promoter, but great for those of us wanting to take photos. Hopefully, this show will go on again in 2006. Which car won best in show? I had to leave at 2pm. It's not on the NYC Concours D'elegance website as of this morning. Just curious since there were a number of notable cars.
I think BEST IN SHOW went to the 57 superamerica! I Think! I won Best Mid Engine Ferrari with my 512 BBi Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congratulations Michael. I arrived at 9am and immediately noticed your car. It truly stood out from an impressive display of gorgeous cars. What a beautiful example of a 512BBi. Did I read the odometer correctly? < 7,000 miles (or was it Kilometers). Would have loved to been there to see the engine cover open. Always got a kick out of the premium sound system with the graphic equalizer... That car was my favorite at the show. Good job.
DUE to Central Park regulations, I had to arrive with my car before 6 am on sunday morning....most people drove in after 12 am saturday night...any way this is what Ferris Buellers car looked like at 5:45 in the morning, and mine at 6:30....AM!!!! I Think they should have put down asto turf on the entire skating rink..... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Michael, I stopped by your car as I have one that is almost identical. Since my car was missing the original radio, equalizer, and steering wheel, I figured I would lose points at a concours. So I had my engine cover painted red as you did, but I also had the rear view mirrors done in red. I had Carobu put adjustable Konis on the car and had it lowered about 2". Congratulations on winning Best Mid Engined Ferrari. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey T Ron, I have seen Carobou Konis advertised in prancing horse...They are height adjustable...do you have any profile pics of your car with the new height in place?
