Guys I hate to ask this question, but I will. Does anybody have an opinion about the new Turbo S? Went and took one out for a spin tonight and was quite surprised. I am just not a Porsche follower and really don't know much. Any honest ideas or opinions would be appreciated. I am thinking about giving the 355 a playmate for my wife to drive and I would rather just buy the full blown Turbo S versus buying a normal 997.

    The current Turbo S is a 996 (I Think)

Which is not bad since it uses the 964 case..Which is good!

Nice car but......dramatically overpriced. Get the "regular" Turbo cab instead.

PCCB brakes are the biggest negative IMHO. The marketplace has not accepted this option as having value.....in fact it is quite the opposite.....much to the detriment of PAG and some of the early owners. Dealer's sitting with the first batch of the new 997 cars that all came with the redesigned PCCB still have many of them in their showrooms as a result. Check at the parts counter for replacement costs of PCCB pads and rotors first....and you'll see what I mean.

I believe that there is major depreciation ahead due to the more desireable and traditional optical dynamics of the new 997.

Used Turbo cabs are trading up here at 25-30% off MSRP already.......my local dealer has had two new ones in stock for the last 4 months. The "S" will be the same.

Agree the PCCB brakes are pricey. But not needed by most...Even the dealers and Porsche themself say that unless you are REALLY on them it doesn't matter...The regualr Brembo are more than anyone would really need except on VERY heavy tracking and some autobahn runs. But they are the best, and that is why they are on the cars..No different than a top speed of 190...can't use that off the track very much even if you don't care about tickets. The brakes are a good option but not unless under extreme circumstances and Porsche admits this.

It's not a great time to be buying a new Porsche, I'm afraid, unless you're the GT3 type. I would have recommended the RWD 997S over the AWD TT but the gimmick-laden 997/997S has proved to be problematic for some early customers. Some owners are already talking lemon law...

All 05 Turbos are "S" models standard with ceramic brakes, X50. Have to purchase an 04 to buy a Turbo Cab without ceramic brakes, X50 option.

If you must have a Cab, I'd suggest watiing for the 997S Cab. It'll be a lot more entertaining to drive than the AWD TT.

It sounds like it'll be available soon. Just give them a few months to work out the early production bugs.

fwiw, I'd wait for an 06...
