Take a look at the following information on the two option packages offered on the 612 for 2006- The H-GTS ( “GT-Sport”) and H-GTC (“GT-Competition”) :

    The $12,877 H-GTS Package includes-
    1)19’ Two-Piece Modular wheels
    2)Sport exhaust
    3)suspension with sport tuning
    4)upgraded transmission tuning
    5) chrome exhaust grills.

If you were to order those 5 items individually, the upgraded rims cost $4,889, an aftermarket sport exhaust from Tubi will run around $5,000 after installation, so therefore you essentially get the remaining options in the package( #3 Sport suspension, #4 upgraded transmission tuning, #5 chrome exhaust grills) for $2988-($ 12,877-$4,889- 5,000). So the H-GTS package is probably worth getting as you’ll want the modular wheels and a sport exhaust anyway, but there isn't really a huge savings unless the suspension upgrade is more than just a software reprogram. I.e. inlcudes different springs, shocks or swaybars.

The next level is the $27,273 H-GTC package, which includes the all the options in the $12,877 H-GTS package PLUS-
    1) Ball Polished finish on the 19” Two-Piece Modular wheels (Individually $1,686),
    2) Red Calipers (Individually $987)
    3) Carbon Ceramic Brakes(Individually approx. $16,808- Based on F430 pricing).

The price difference between the H-GTC and the H-GTS is $14,396, and for this $14,396 you get $19,479 worth of extra options over the H-GTS level. So there does appear to be substaintial cost savings in this package.

Therefore the H-GTC package is probably also worth getting as it offers some savings, it may actually be a better option than just the H-GTS package because there seems to be an increasing marginal gain in savings.

    Any comments?

Might be worth a $5k premium when the cars are worth $100k in 2 years.

just so you're clear on the subject, you soundl ike your wife at the mall: "but honey, it's on sale, so we should buy it!"

    :)

unless you're gonna track the 612, the carbo brakes are, imho, a waste of money. they're a resale liability long-term - who wants to be the owner caught in that game of musical chairs someday.

    doody.

a 330k+ (out the door) 612... look historically at 2+2 values. 100k in 2 years might be a bit of an exagerration but you can find running 456s in the 50s. for a car that would've cost you over 250k out the door back then. granted they are almost 10 years old now, but as the prices increase the values plummet harder.

there's no reason to believe that this car will hold value compared to any of the rest of the line-up. right now you can get a new 612 order any time you want, and they are already selling used cars at a discount. for a ferrari that came out less than a year ago?

I understand what you saying about people not needing the carbon brakes, but the feedback I'm getting from customers that have them is that they love them. I personally don't think they are that important on a 612, but it is hard to argue with the feedback.

I think what it comes down it is if you are considering modular wheels and/or carbon brakes, you might as well just order the packages.

to all those who think aftermarket wheels on a f are a mortal sin - how can f offer TWO sets of wheels for their cars? only one can be appropriate and the other a total bastardization! lol

    Interesting post. Thanks Flyin' DutchMan.

Am I the only one who takes a look at the pricing of a Ferrari options package and think measuring the value is absurd? The car already costs three hundred grand. Another twenty or thirty for the options pack that will make it "just right" for an owner is like spitting in the ocean to bring in the tide, or whatever the expression is.

Personally, I don't like the modular wheels. Certainly not "ball polished", which is just another way of saying chromed. I agree with 95spiderman that a car of such calibre is designed with its wheels. Their design is not an afterthought, they shouldn't be swapped for aftermarket. Ferrari should know that, after all.

I know the whole idea of looking for value in option packages in cars at this level is kind of silly, but what I was getting at was that if you want modular wheels and say cermaic brakes, you might as well buy the packages.

Is the Sport Exhaust you get with either HGTS or HGTC packages made by Tubi or is it something else?
    Thanks for your replys.

The 612 is a great sedan! Treat it like that. Enjoy the decadence and get the carbon fiber brakes. I have carbon fiber brakes on anther sports car and they squeak like heck. The 612 is falling fast a new 2006 can be had for $245K
