Hey guys. Its been raining in SoCal and I finally had a chance to take the car out for some prolonged drives. Had a question and wanted to see if anyone here knew or heard of this. So, I know the 2008 and later 612s have the "superfast" shifting like the 599s. So, was curious as to whether the actual transmissions are different, or if it was just a software change. If its just a software change, why are the older 612s not able to update the ECU software to also shift "faster" Does anyone know the possibilities/impossibilites to this? Thanks in advance
Great question.. I would add to this question with the following: 1. Can you have the ECU upgraded for better/faster shifting 2. Is the clutch adjustable to create less slip from the start This for 2005-2006 612's.
Hi BayArea- I have some emails and calls out to people and will update everyone on this post. So far looks like it do-able. Similar to the TCU upgrades the 360s went through (there are tons of info on this from the site -- thanks to all for this).
PM- The OTO 612 was updated with the 599 dual plate clutch and a transmission based on the 599, so it is different from the 2006 transmission and single plate clutch nearly direct from the 575M, and the OTO also had the Superfast F1 hardware and software. BAF- The PIS (point of initial slippage) is adjustable, but reducing slip may result in stalling at start. The dealer can have your PIS/kiss point adjust itself using an SD3. It is then possible to manually adjust the clearance that PIS represents, but it is probably not a good idea. I am not sure if there was an update for pre-OTO 2008 F1 ECU/TCU software. If there was, your dealer may be able to reflash the TCU to update it. Ask your dealer, since he is the one who will have to do the job in the first place. As an example there were two software packages for the 575M/SA/HGTC and three for the 360/CS. My WSM and parts catalogs do not have late model 612 tech data, so ask your dealer. Taz Terry Phillips
