Regarding the 2006 newest versions of the C6, I am now hearing about a "six-speed wheel mounted paddle shifter"...is this the real deal (meaning an "auto-clutch" manual transmission)?..or just a gimmicky auto tranny?

If the real deal....will it be available on the Z06 in the future?

    Sorry, Goldy, it's a slushbox.

Could you imagine if GM did use that technology in a road car? I think it would be groundbreaking.

Just another way to shift an automatic transmission. The Z06 won't get the paddle shift. They seem happy with their 'stone age' manual transmission. Sort of like rowing through wet cement with a 50 pound oar.

It would have to be, if it were to be approved for North American consumption....

At the very least, it would be transmission breaking... :p

    Indeed.

I also think that perhaps they'd have issues surrounding the servicability of that technology within their existing dealer network.

It would be neat to have an f1 type box in the new Zo6, maybe some day

    Aren't Vettes Raisin's domain? ;)

It would be rather interesting to see a flappy paddle system on the Z06, and I agree that it would revolutionary for GM.

Given their current state of woe, what are people's thoughts on developing such a system? What would something like this cost? I don't know, so I'm asking.

You know if GM could ever get there **** together I bet they could build some great cars. Unfortunately, if they do come out with an f1 type of transmission in the z06 it could be a nightmare. I hope someone over there thought this through.Or else, thats another car their gonna butcher.

GM must have lots of money. They paid Fiat 2 Billion $ NOT to buy the company...

Someone bring up drag racing or quarter mile times, I'll argue that it's stupid, someone else will chime in about how those times are BS and this thread will go to ****.

Ok...The C6 does indeed have a paddleshift feature, but it is not available on the ZO6. The Z06 is strictly a manual transmission car.

The normal C6 has the option of the six speed manual, and autobox, or the autobox with the paddle shift feature. From what I have read, it works quite well, but it is not like the F1 system, and does not use a "clutch".

The Vette has always been cutting edge tech for GM. This maybe a market test of the technology to see how the consumer responds to such an option. I could see in the future GM working with other manufactures, to engineer a system like the Ferrari set-up, and you could pretty much garantee it would work much better.

A lot of people said that about Ferrari as well, especially when Porsche began experimenting with auto trannys in their cars a couple decades ago.....now F1 sales account for the majority of new Fcar purchases.

Although the F1 tranny is along way away from being a slushbox, I'm sure the spirit of Enzo Ferrari isn't too pleased with the situation as is! But alas, things change, and the only thing one can expect of the future is that it will be different from the present. Of that, there can be no doubt.....
