Just received our tickets today for the upcoming F1 race in Spa. They already have tickets for '06 on sale with good pricing if reserved and paid before 1 November 2005. Next price break is reserved and paid before 1 May 2006. The brochure was printed with 8-9-10 September 2006 as race dates. Enclosed in the ticket brochure was a little "warning" slip stating "Please note that the date of next year's 2006 Belgian Grand Prix is not 8-9-10 September - the correct date is 15-16-17 September 2006."

Of course, there's nothing on the "official" FIA site yet and it has typically been mid-December when they've published a finalized calendar. But you can't sit back and wait for the calendar otherwise there's no motel rooms and flights can be difficult and considerably more expensive. It's worth it to get a lower airfare and pay the $200 per ticket change fee and hope that when you re-book the fare hasn't skyrocketed.

I was searching for other sites that might list a provisional '06 calendar and encountered something very interesting. It was on www.F1-gpt.com and they were selling tickets several races already. Thankgoodness everyone is showing Imola as 16 April (hope it stays that way as we've already purchased tickets to BLQ and made hotel reservations in Maranello):)
They are showing Spain as 30 April; Monaco as 28 May; Europe as 4 June; Canada as 18 June; Magny-Cours as 25 June and Silverstone as 2 July. Based on the info from this site it appears that there is only ONE North American race!!! Time will tell what happens . . .

I'd be careful about purchasing tickets to the 2006 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa.

I just read yesterday in F-1 Racing that the event itself has come into question due to some tax despute between the two towns, Malmedy and Stavelot. Tickets have been severely discounted and status of the 2006 Belgian GP at Spa will be clarified in December.

Do you have the link to that report? They certainly spent some $$ on their advertising for '06 and the prices on the brochure are discounted as in the past but I saw nothing severe in the discounts in comparing '05 to '06 pricing. Silver 6 is only showing 36 Euro less than last year for early purchase. Someone needs to re-coop the funds spent for the new covered grandstands for this year.

Any word on the Mexican GP?

I so want to go to that one, but July is just too hot and hurricany a month for the Yucatan peninsula. I wish they'd move that date.

Shoot! Come back to Indy Michelin ... all is forgiven!

The Indy race was pretty affordable for working class stiffs like me. Sad to see it go!

I am afraid that the Mexican GP in Cancun will not be possible till 2007. The 2006 GP in Cancun looks highly unlikely.

On the Canadian tsn.ca website, a report explained that 'construction delays' had put the proposed Mantarraya Automobile Circuit project back.

Thanks for the update. I can live with that, as long as I know ahead of time I can make my travel arrangements.

Without any disrespect to the current organisers in Cancun, one thing has to be said. It is hard to do any work in Cancun given all the "distractions".

    That is so true :)

    But back to the topic:

We may see a GP in Singapore instead of Cancun.

An email from a friend (I think she found this on the net):

While Mexico's plans are on hold, Singapore is hoping to join the F1 rat race. Meetings between the Singapore Motor Sports Association and the country's tourism board are in the early stages but hopes are for an F1 street race sometime in the next three years.

The SMSA has identified a seafront location for the 2.4-mile circuit, which would pass by some of the country's most recognized landmarks such as the Raffles Hotel and Victoria Concert Hall.

SMSA president Matthew Lee admits the only chance the country has in attracting a Formula One race is if the tourism board agrees to underwrite the project. It's believed it will take almost $30-million US to establish the street circuit and between $13-million and $18-million a year in rights fees to stage the race.

I dont have a link to the report. It's a blip in the June F-1 Racing Magazine,
page 18. I'm one of those wackos who still believes in print.

The Mantarraya Automobile Circuit project was already in trouble as of March 2005. The organizers were completely off schedule. I am sure Emily did not help but should hardly be used as an excuse.

Fingers crossed, we will see the new cicuit there by 2007. I am always excited to see new purpose built F1 tracks. F1 needs to be in a stiuation where ther are 18 races each years but 36 potential circuits that put in a bid to hold the F1 race in their country... Just like the Olympic bidding process!
