As some of you know, I'm not a new car guy. I think spending hard earned money on a new car ranks with sending a check to the Democratic National Party for gross fiscal malfeasance.

    However.....

If one had to buy a new car, and one wanted a high quality car the DOES NOT BREAK and is reasonably priced, with a gentle depreciation curve, could there be ANY better choice than the 2006 Lexus GS430??

The current GSs have a lot of great attributes, but are bvtt-ugly. The new one is a real looker and won't come with all the niggling defects endemic to the newer Bay-Em-Vays and MBs.

Better than a LS430? I think so, as the handling, while not "sports-car" will at least be sport-y. And the looks??? Did I mention the looks?

This is the first Toyota since the original SC300 that does not fall somewhere between pitiable and vapid.

    Look at this beauty:

It looks great...great interior..but I am a car guy...and if I saw this on the street from a side angle i would think it was a newer Maxima..sorry! Front end of the car gives it away as a lexus

good luck..and go with whatever makes you happy!

Since I drive a Maxima I am bored with the look. I was at the N.E. Auto Show in November, I saw the new GS in person and I really thought it was the new Maxima from afar. Once I got on top of it and realized I was in the Lexus section, I got to examine the car more.

I will say this, in person this is a SEXY car! I am bummed to see they do not offer the GS430 in the AWD option only the underpowered GS300 does. The car is a real head turner in person but it's out of my reach right now. I am looking at SUV's now so cars are out of the pic for me. :(

Keep it handy for service costs...Nissan "quality" does not exactly come close to Lexus. ;)

Dont forget to drive the new Infiniti M45. Ive driven one already, and
was blown away by the advances. It really is a bigger faster more
expensive G35. I predict a new winner from Infiniti, and them sucking
away a good bit of business from Lexus.

Like the GS too. We don't get the 430 here in Malaysia due to high taxes on big capacity engines ( anything above 3.0 is horribly expensive here ). Over here the Lexus GS300 is complimented by it's Japanese Domestic Market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo GS300 Twin Turbo Vertex Edition...typical Jap-Lish name but with a stonking 400hp ex-Supra (de-pegged from the JDM 276hp limit ) it is one seriously mean 4-door saloon.....

It comes in RHD form only I'm afraid..

The new Flying Spur looks much better.

I still miss the original design of the GS300, I had a green/tan 1993, my sister has it now. The Italdesign was a good looking car. But it was fat and underpowered and the power steering gave no feedback.

Actually, I am moving again, tomorrow -- this time to Mississippi!

In the past three months, I have moved from Arkansas, to Alabama, to Mississippi! And I may be moving to Tennessse in August!

At least you're trying to learn the lingo :)

Frozenguy, you're not the only one. The centre alumnium trim is quite ugly in my opinion. The rest is okay, but nothing jumps out at me as very impressive.

I dunno, to me (and i apologize in advance to those of you who own or really like these cars) it has the same appeal as the idea of driving around in my SubZero refrigerator; a well-built, status appliance without a lick of soul.
