Residual values of leases are the top indicator of projected depreciation. As I have argued with a few recently about the Vipers depreciation (or lack of), thought I would post this... Viper ranks number 1 out of all domestic cars , with a residual value of over 60% after 3 years, this based on the 2006 model year. Pontiac Solstice is 2nd on the list. Residual lease values tend to be conservative across the board...for obvious reasons. This was published by Automotive Lease Guide......the firm that sets the residual lease values. I can't post the dam article however, but still trying.

AJ, do you think the reason for that is because of the fact that they are made in such low volumes? Are you thinking of getting one to replace or add to your existing GTS?

Given that dealers here in Canada received $25K rebates on the new "saleproof" models of the 2005 MY Vipers I find that hard to fathom............I'd hate to be the lease company putting my money into one of those things based on this book.

I have a new '06 Coupe...Blue/White stripes First Edition. Factory modded to 570 ponies. And yes...the low volumes certainly are one of the leading reasons, to be sure.

I was speaking of 06 cars, not 05. But.....I am not up to speed on the Canadian car scene. 05 Vipers have generally depreciated about 15% in the first year. That would be in line with less than 40% depreciation after 3 years. FYI....03 models are still worth over 60% of their retail value.....at wholesale numbers. Over 70% at retail. These numbers, while very good in the US market, are not what Viper owners have been used to. An '02 Coupe still retains over 72% of the original MSRP...after 5 years. The 96 Coupe......still retains over 80% of original MSRP...after 10 years. The 01 Coupe...over 70% after 6 years. Good numbers indeed. You think for some reason that the '06 is going to be different than the historical? Why? The new Coupe will have a short run....with very limited production. I foresee these cars holding over 75% after 3 years.

    Hi A.J..........

The US market perceives the car differently than up here I guess. Personally I love the new coupe.

AJ, how did the Z06 you drove compare to your 06 Viper Coupe?

I actually own that car at the moment.lol. My friend did a trade on an 04 Viper I had, and I have the Z06. It is fast, from a dig. Driving enjoyment, mid-range acceleration, handling......I give the edge to the serpent. I am not a gadget guy. I prefer to live and die by my ability. That being said....I feel that the Z06 is a great American muscle car, with terrific street smarts.

Thanks AJ, I have been thinking about getting a Z06, they seem to be a lot of car for the money, I figured you being a Muscle Car Guy as well as a Lambo afficinado would have a worthy opinion on the car.
