Ey all ...newbie here. Im a few days away from a childhood dream.. getting a 07 612 f1a pretty soon. The seller said the major service was done in 2012 nov but transmission campaign way back in 2009. Can you folks guide me as to whether I should have that redone prior to car delivery and any other pointers on the car would be appreciated before I put pen on paper.. Thanks!

Vignesh- A major on a 612 means the cambelts were changed at the recommended 5 year interval in 2012. Not aware of any transmission campaign, but there was a campaign to replace the clutch position sensor for one with waterproof connectors. Once done, does not need to be repeated until the clutch is replaced.

Redoing the cambelt change ("major" to some) is a waste of time and effort. Will not need to be done until 2017. Since 612s had factory timing marks scribed on the back of the camshafts at the factory before the engine was installed, it is very easy to get very precise cam timing just by lining up TDC with those scribed marks. Of course, ti takes a mirror to see the marks. So she will be fine for another five years after the date of the "major".

There was a fuel level sensor campaign as well-- you should check if that was done.

Just got back from the PPI. Thanks for all your expertise! car shifted great. 612 accelerates great for a car of that size. ..had my stomach in my mouth for a few moments there. Checked with the seller and he said this car has had no fuel sensor issue thus far. interior had some sticky areas, Service records were impeccable...body condition was perfect so I GOT IT!! only glitch was TPMS warning came on and dealer said that it is not worth fixing now due to recurring issues? what should i do..should I covince him to fix it..checking pressure in the tires did not fix the issue..

TPMS batteries in the senders go after a few years and it sounds like yours have - its up to you - either turn it off or have someone chuck hundreds of dollars at the issue

TPMS is easy to fix, all she needs is new sensors. The 612 uses Huf Beru RDE001 sensors (orange Gen 1.5 sensors) available from Amazon for ~$105 each, or from TireRack for a bit less if you know exactly what you need. Rebuild kits for the valves are about $10 each usually, and use the original hardware with new soft parts.

System actually works very well, despite many people not understanding and badmouthing it, and has a very low false alarm rate because of the hidden antennae in the wheelwells. Not something you want to turn over to a dealer, though, because their sensor prices are inflated by about 50-100%.

I'd make the seller fix the TPMS at their expense, and while it is there, have the dealer do the fuel level sensor campaign, which should be at no cost to you.

Unless maybe the fuel level sensor issue only applied to OTO cars?

Don- Once all that stuff migrated to MODIS, it has been much harder to find copies of the tech bulletins.

You mean they wouldn't fix the TPMS, or the fuel level sensor?

If it's the TPMS, I can understand, although I would have probably made it a condition of the deal. If it's the fuel level sensor, they are just lazy-- Ferrari pays for that, it's not free as far as they are concerned. Unless they are not an authorized Ferrari dealer.

TPMS. Fuel level sensors were not an issue in this model, was what I was told.one of the Largest dealerships in the country. Dont think it was worth it for them to cover it up..

If they won't fix the TPMS as a condition of purchase, that's not a dealer you want to do business with. They probably smell how much you want the car and figure they'll stick you.

My dealer (probably one of top 3 or 4 in US) would not deliver a car, even a pre owned, throwing any codes or with immediate service needs.). Have you considered perhaps out of area dealers?

If it is a consignment Ferrari, dealers do not want to spend a dime on her.

If the dealer won't fix the TPMS issue, just wait until you wear out the tyres and have the battery changed when the tyres are off the rim. There is no point in getting hung up on an issue caused by a $2 watch battery; they won't last for ever no matter how well the car is services - just think of them as consumables.

I bought a 612 as a daily driver for business 4 months and love the car - the best I have ever owned. You will have to ignore these little electrical niggles which are bound to happen in a low-volume hand-built work of art that can also travel at 199mph.

Agreed. I will invest in a good hand held tyre pressure monitor for now and worry about it as you said later. Congrats on your 612! cant wait to have her...;)
