I would take the Corvette because in the end, the Mustang is well... a Mustang, even if it is a Shelby. I think that makes sense If I remember right, the Mustang weighs over 4000lbs. How much does a 'Vette weigh?
Corvette in a second. The GT500 is a pig, and I'm not a fan of what redeems the car (the fact that it's called a "Shelby GT500" and what that evokes).
Cool pic, what magazine was that from? For those that aren't familiar, that's at Grattan Raceway near Grand Rapids, Mi. That must be the last pic before the camera car had to turn in for the blind 90 degree right hander at the top of the hill they're climbing! Pretty exciting stuff, say 60 mph blind turn-in (they usually put a cone up there, very handy in a go kart!) Oh, as for which car? I'll take whichever one someone's gonna give me! To own or to drive! Will the Shelby be worth somethign in the future? Well, it's not like it's built AT Shelby American or anysuch. But I think some of the later original Shelby Mustangs were Ford-built as well, weren't they?
I got it from Car and Driver's website. http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/11150/comparison-test-review-2006-chevrolet-corvette-vs-2007-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500.html
'Vette. Never have liked Ford, never will. As far as American Muscle is concerned, I'm Chevy all the way. However, I wish the Corvette wasn't such a common site and so boring to look at. I love the car, but being that everyone and their grandma has one it takes the appeal away. One main problem with the 'Vette is that they always cheap out on the interior. Seats suck, console looks cheap, leather looks cheap. If the ZO6 was cheaper it'd be worth it. However, for that much money I'd rather get a used F-car, M5, or even a CTS-V, or STS-V.
Vette. This way you dont have to explain about the car. Its just "Hey, what kind of car is that?" "A Corvette". Or people just know, "Yo' thats a corvette. That is sweet" Where as the mustang "Hey what kind of car is that?" "Its a mustang, but it has a bigger V8 blah blah blah" By this time, all the ladies have decided if they are going to go for a ride with you.
Exactly, no matter what name they slap on it, special colors, or bigger engine.... its still a Mustang that 16 year old's have the V6 version... and 95% of people don't know or care about the difference. Besides, the new Corvette's are great cars and tough to beat anyway.
Depends on the circumstances. If it was a situation where I won some type of contest/raffle and had a choice of the two; I would go with the Shelby as it is somewhat limited and there are fewer of them around. In addition the current Mustang is probably the first post vintage area Mustang to really peak my intrest. By contrast the Vettes are more common and somewhat easier to accuire than the GT500 (I.E. no waiting lists/over the top dealer mark-ups). If the choice was between the GT500 and the Z06 then I would go with the Vette. With the vette being the base model, and a limited production Mustang the other I would have to opt for the Mustang. Now if I was paying for the car myself then it's the Vette all the way, for the same reasons I previously mentioned. The way I figure it the outrageous dealer mark-up of theGT500 will probably cause you to actually pay 5-10K more for the Mustang. With the Vette you get a better car, for less money, and have less hassles trying to purchase the thing.
C6 is so much lighter so it's still faster with 100 hp less. Besides you can get a discount on a new (06) C6 and you can't get a GT500 without a markup so that skews the deal further.
Depends? Are they staying stock? Stock I would go with the Vette, if I wanted to add a little skoot to their steps, I would go with the stang as it is way easier to mod a factory blown block. Believe me when I see there will be plenty of 1000hp GT500s running around.
Corvette in a heart beat. The mustang name has been tarnished and dragged through the mud. If someone came up to me and said, "Hey come check out my new mustang!" I would probably groan. If someone came up to me and said, "Hey, come check out my new c6!" I would look forward to seeing it.
Vette all the way. A Mustang is still a Mustang, besides the fact that this is not really a Shelby in my eyes. To me there's nothing special about slapping a blower on an engine and changing its name. Mark
Until I loose some hair, I would never own a Corvette ... based on my travels, I have a Corvette owner theory. My theory is that more than 50% of Corvette owners are middle-aged males who are bald. My theory holds up very well in the East Coast and Mid-West ... but not so well on the West Coast. Until I'm in THAT demographic, I'll stick with the GT500.
The GT500 posted about the same 1/4 times as the 03/04 Cobras and it supposedly has over a hundred more horses. The car just isn't what it should be. Ford definitely dropped the ball on this one.
Weight, gearing, possible lack of claimed horsepower (ford has been known to do that). . . And not to mention it's a frickin brick. But it still looks badarse. . . I just wish they were about 70- 80% of their size.
Corvette no question. If it were 1960s GT500 vs. 1960s Vette, now that would be a little tougher to decide.
Considering the regular C6 just handed the Ford it's a$$ in a recent review I would definately have to say the Z06.
I read the car weighs 3,920 pounds...without driver! Even with my featherweight ass in the seat its tipping well over 4,000 pounds.
