GM just said it will warranty ALL 2007 GM brand cars and trucks for 100000 miles on the powertrain.
There goes GM.... With thier quality, they will either be doing a ton of warranty claims, loosing a ton of money, or refusing to honor warranties, pissing a ton of customers off, and loosing a ton of money. In GMs defense though, thier quality is getting a lot better, just not good enough to offer that kind of warranty yet.
Notice how they excluded problems due to "low quality fuel" I wonder if the sh itty 10% Ethanol crap we are being forced to put in our tanks counts as "low quality fuel."
That's a pretty ignorant statement. I've put 150,000 miles on 2 Chevy Trucks (1993 and 2005) and never had a single issue with any of the components listed as covered under this warranty. If maintainance is done properly (and it has to be to keep the warranty good) then I would trust any GM vehicle to last well over 100k.
My family had an '89 Suburban go strong 150k miles before selling, a 97 Suburban at 149k running strong, and an 05 tahoe at 50k running like new... However, one of the seatcovers freakishly melted when a rubbermaid container was on it and they refused to replace it-- It was hell and a lot of $$ to get it replaced. There were like 5 DIFFERENT seat patterns for that particular model of Tahoe, not to mention different shades of grey leather...
Same for our GMC Suburbans/Yukons. My dad's owned a whole line of em. Now, when he's done with em, they get passed around to the family (my grandmother drives one now to haul her stuff around, and my aunt drives another on her ranch). They all still run just the same!
Same thing, the '97 Suburban has become the Loaner/Moving vehicle. With the back seat out and the middle folded down, it's like a cargo van!!
Perhaps one of you geniuses (sp) should apply at GM and show them the folly of their ways, then. Anyone think that maybe they looked at the costs of such a move before acting?
Trucks and cars are different beasts. EVERY Malibu in our company's fleet has had frequent drivetrain issues. As much as they are in for service I'm sure glad I don't use a company car.
My experience with fleet vehicles is this: They're fleet vehicles. Most people using fleet vehicles aren't terribly concerned with the future of said vehicles. These vehicles tend to see a lot of abuse. Also, they see more mileage and less interest from the drivers. That's just a theory I have, not trying to be rude. I will admit that my '96 Chevy Impala SS was a freakin' money pit, but I abused the hell out of it, and it's 10 years old... The two grand prixs I own are running strong, one at 130k one at 70k!! Oh, and the '75 Vette with 22k is doing alright!
Obviously not the fact that GM has stockpiled something like 36 billion USD in preperation for 2007, with a plan to spend something like $22billion to redo their strategy. Apparently that strategy is to offer a 100k mile warranty. Obviously not the fact that GM cars have improved by lightyears in the quality department over the past 5 years. Obviously not the fact that GM is going to make so much freaking money off people signing up for the 100k warranty that the relatively few warranty claims can be shrugged off....
Pantera, You make me sick!!!!!! You really dont know anything about much do you? If you did you would not make 1/2 the posts you do. GMs sales were up over 3% last mth. Warranty claims are down 30% last year thats why GM can offer a longer warranty. So Pantera you might just want to look GM as a good investment because thay are back in the game.
Why? Because he is telling the truth? GM will be worth looking at when people running GM large car dealerships put GM cars on the list of their wanted cars instead of Italian made cars. I will wait for that to sink in.
I dont see a lot of Toyota and Honda cars on wanted lists, either. Are they companies worth looking at?
Yeah sure now they are taking chances by trying to be more like hynduy. Its to bad i will never think about buying from them. Next thing you know they will have something like the Toyota Prius.
Pantera, Its funny you bring up Hyundai ,this is how you spell it by the way, because thay also are building a good car now.
I think this is a good plan by GM, essentially going from a 3 year to a 5 year warranty. If reliability issues are a major reason that people do not buy GM vehicles then this should alleviate some of those fears (and hopefully increase sales).
