Last year I took my son to the Houston Grand Prix just for the practice day on Thursday. It was dirt cheap ($25/each for tickets and pit passes) and you could sit anywhere you wanted. I'm thinking of adding an extra day this year and seeing the ALMS race on Saturday night (http://www.grandprixofhouston.com/content2006/release_07_20_2006_2007_dates.html). Does anyone have recommendation on seating? During practice, we sat on the outside of turn 3 (http://www.grandprixofhouston.com/source/map_track_gph2007.pdf), outside of turn 5, outside of turn 8, and in the grandstand straight. But, we were able to pick the perfect spot whereas now we'll probably be luck of the draw. Also, the turn 3 grandstand doesn't exist any more and the turn 8 grandstand is "grandstand club"

I'm thinking the grandstand at turn 9 might be the best spot. I remember seeing a good amount of passing there when sitting at turn 8. Anyone else want to make recommendations?

I don't remember there being much action in the turn 5 sweeper but we were sitting there very early in the day during the star mazda practice rather than the ALMS practice.

We were at the fence at Turn 3, or before the turn actually at the 'kink' before the walkover and the stands......then used the walkover and went to the inside....that was good...

Front straight up high sees the most track, IIRC..

The Ferrari Club was over on the West side, maybe someone from there will make a suggestion...

Like any race you see the most being willing to walk from place to place...once we were inside we went over by the 'Dome....past where the VIP tent was set up, and watched there for awhile......

Re: ALMS - Why sit in a seat for the entire race when with a GA ticket you can go around the circuit. We did GA last year - sat in the GA stands for a while but migrated all around the track and saw more than those in seats. We go to many of the ALMS races and don't get "seats" - we walk around the circuit - especially true for Road Atlanta. We always do the grid walk too.

ALMS is all about the fans!

I enjoyed my time last year. The local Ferrari club put together an awesome event with great food, drinks, grandstand seats and a large tent to escape the heat.i am sure that there will be a great event lined up this year as well.

I don't think I am going this year. For one thing I might be travelling out of the country on a couple occasions between March and June and the other is that the track plain bores me. Maybe I can save up some money and go to Road America/Road Atlanta maybe.
