I am looking at a 2008 599 with under 10k miles. Service records indicate that both front and one rear "strut" were replaced, along with cam gaskets, etc. Is this normal for a 599? Are the "struts" actually the shock absorbers? Owner claims the repair was needed, along with a rear tie rod, due to vehicle sitting and not being driven...I am puzzled...can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance.

599 shocks are prone to leakage and often need replacing. There are no MacPherson struts on a 599, just coil over Magneride shock absorbers. Thought you were referring to the gas struts the hold open the hood when I saw the post.

A rear tie rod should not really wear from just sitting unless one of the shocks leaked on the bushings and somehow damaged one. Even then, just the bushing would need replacing.

Likely the cam cover gaskets were leaking and then replaced. Not unusual.
