what are your thoughts on this SUV?
    compared to ML63?

i drove an ML63 last week and could NOT believe the power.
i have had the last Cayenne TT and X5 4.8is.
generally found the X5 the most comfortable all rounder but with no "is" vrsion available, i am contemplating the new cayenne.

ML is great but here in Oz, 90% of owners seem to be women picking up kids...

I wake up every morning and try to convince myself that the Cayenne was just a bad dream. Then, I arrive at my office and park right next to a Turbo S version.

    Absolute sacrilege.

The 08 version will look a little better. Ultimatly way too heavy because it is a proper 4wd. So a heavy poseury type of car with a lot of power. ML6.3
    is a better bet.

One of my clients has a Cayenne Turbo S now. I love driving that thing. Its one of those cars that isn't meant to make sense to everyone, but you will find few people who have driven one that don't come away impressed.

I have taken it to the mountain a few times and even off road a bit, then cruised over 100 on the highway back home, all with few comprimises (ok, its a little small if you have more than one kid). Great SUV in my opinion.

I have not had a chance to get inside the new Mercedes yet though.

Stuttgart/Leipzig . Spectacular loading operation at Leipzig-Halle Airport: Today (Friday), 35 second-generation Cayenne vehicles will be loaded into the cargo hold of an Antonov 124-100. The aircraft will then take off and transport the sport utility vehicles to Mexico for Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG’s central dealer presentation. As this event starts on January 29, 2007, the sport vehicle manufacturer has opted to transport the new models by air. A total of 121 Cayenne vehicles must be flown to Mexico this month.

Transport logistics are the responsibility of Schenker Deutschland AG,
which has performed several air freight consignments for Porsche in the past. The Antonov 124-100 is the ideal carrier: at 69 meters in length and with a wingspan of 73 meters, it is the largest mass-produced transport aircraft in the world.

Series production of the second generation of the Cayenne began at
Porsche’s Leipzig plant in December 2006. The market launch in Europe, the Middle East, and Japan is scheduled for February 24, 2007, with North and South America and the Asia/Pacific region following on March 3. Vehicles will be transported to the major overseas markets by rail and sea, as is typical for Porsche, whereas the Company’s European markets will be supplied by rail and road.

I know it isn't on your list, but have you taken a look at the Tourag diesel.
    A V-10 with 520lbft and great mileage.

My Mom is going through the same thing right now. She is debating between the ML, the New X5 and the 08 Cayenne. Her first choice is the 08 Cayenne, but the problem is she has to wait till April. Right now she has an ML with 130k miles and its falling apart. Her next choice is the new ML. She was not impressed with the new X5, she thought the build quality was not great. I am actually quite surprized she thinks the X5 is not put together as well as the ML. I personally think the ML build quality is very poor. She will make her final decision today. IMO the 08 Cayenne is an improvement from the current model and it would my first choice out of all them.

i might be being a bit quick to dismiss.
i had a V8 Tourag a few years back and then moved to an X5.
i thought the X5 was much better built, went harder and was a nicer all round car, especially ergonomically.

i canot fault the X5 - only 4WD IMO that actually fells like a car to drive.

having said that, i neeeeed power.

bought the 08 cayenne TT today.
    here in 8 weeks.

We had an ML55 AMG then traded it in for a ML500. Never had a Cayenne.

Does anybody here own both ML500 and ML63? Can I know how different the ride is?

if your outside of CA another option is the Audi Q7 V12 TT TDI. I was waiting for this to come out and then CA baned it as usual. same thing happened to the tourag TDI.

I've had the X5 and wasn't that impressed, prefer the M5's. drove the porsche but found it small for me - 6'5" - I honestly wasn't keen on the Q7 but my wife wanted something bigger than the A8's trunk space becouse we have two little boys. After 10k miles and 5k of them towing the Ferrari around it's been actually great, good space nice ergonomics, although i wish they'd step up the trim level to match the A8. offroad is limited to unpaved service roads or dirt access ways that are not to bumpy or loamy. the air suspension is a must.

    so just another option.

The lease on our 2004 Cayenne Turbo will be up in May, so I ordered the 2008 Cayenne Turbo today (now with 500hp and 2mpg reduction of fuel consumption). Will be here beginning of June.

I looked for something different, and initially came to the conclusion that the M5 Touring would be our next family car. However, even though they are introducing the Touring (Wagon) in the US, they will not sell it Stateside. Bummer.

Same with the RS6 Avant, so the only credible alternative would have been the X5, but this has no S or M version (yet). I hate MB, so no AMG 63 for us.

I do think that the Cayenne is not a great looking car, and the facelift has not made it any better. However, the upgrade to 500hp and the (optional) active suspension seems to be a huge improvement. So, we are back in the fold.......

Today they had the new CTT at Manhattan Motorcars. It looks much better in person than on the photos. The headlights are like the eyes of an angry cartoon character and the grill looks very agressive. The new 21" wheels are gorgeous.
