How can we plan on going to a "Provisional" race? Will the airlines and hotels refund our money if FIA cancels or moves the Canadian GP?

    Ridiculous.

The date for the Melbourne race in 2000 was moved with only 12-16 weeks of warning. The magnitude of the egos and disregard for fans in the sporting business is incomprehensible to me. I suppose we should consider ourselves fortunate that Bernie and Tony George were able to agree on the USGP for a few years. In 2008 at the height of our tourist season, when our hotels and restaurants are packed anyway, Phoenix will have a PGA event and the Super Bowl on the same weekend. Community leaders plead with the PGA to pick a different date, but the egos involved decided that they didn't care about convenience to the fans or city residents. If I treated my customers in a similar manner, I'd be out of business.

Just book a hotel you can cancel and get their with FF miles. Or, buy a flight you can cancel. No big deal.

Notice the one week ahead of the Canadian GP and the week thereafter? They could easily swap in a USGP if they wanted to. The reason for the * is probably that the Canadian at the most would shift one week later if there were a clash with a US GP date.

Apart from that:Thanks for posting this. I just made my Montreal hotel reservation. Penalty is $ 40 if they change the schedule. No big deal compared to a price hike or no rooms available at all. BTW: They have already caught on to this and most hotels are already covered with a block. That to me means the Canadian GP date is fairly safe.

PS: Get your Canadian hotel now. With no USGP, everybody will go there.

PPS: Got a source for Canadian GP tickets?

Where's a good place to stay in Montreal?

Understand they have a subway from the island where the race is to downtown. Noticed that Rob stayed near the track this year.

    Thanks

For some strange reason the German GP has been called European for a few yrs
for 2008 its going back to the German GP name (with hock and ring alternating) and the European is moving to spain

You want to be downtown. That limits the choices because many hotels already don't take reservations anymore.

The Ring has been the European GP and Hockenheim has had the German GP for years. The two races agreed to alternate years for the foreseeable future. However, the two organizations who run the tracks are at odds. Hockenheim wouldn't allow the Ring to use the title of the German GP. Now that there are two races in Spain, Valencia has been given the European GP name. No problem for '08 as Hockenheim will run the German GP, but for '09 the Ring will either have to work out a deal to get the rights to the German GP name, or call it something else entirely.

    Suggestions?

The Grand Prix of the 'Ring.... the little, crappy 'Ring

You can look for the Ferrari Finale Championship to be around 9 Nov 2008. That will make it a lot
colder in Italy for that event.

A few years ago the Canadian GP fell off the schedule. We still bought plane tickets, kept the room, we were going regardless. At worst it'd mean we get to sleep in! Regarding accomodations: we use Bed & Breakfasts, there's quite a few downtown and if you pay cash you skip the taxes... or so I've heard...

For what it's worth, GPTours is selling packages to the Montreal GP. I see no reason why it would vanish. Also, has anyone ever tried the Kangaroo TV at the race? I'm sure there's a posting on here somewhere, but I just saw it as a package option. About $100 to rent for the weekend--seems kind of cool!
