    Good evening to all

    Pictures to follow soon.

Some of you may know me as a re-builder of 355s and some may not even know me due to circumstances. One thing I want to assure you is that I do not cut corners. How I came about this QP is a long story. Bought one for the Wife, needed parts, ended up with a parts car from the auction to keep the wife QP running and decided to build couple of others to use up the parts.

2008 QP PA or MN car Now a CA salvage title, Silver/tan, 25k miles, super mint/ I mean mint. No stickies, P.O. parked it on a carpet in a covered garage. Elderly couple. Bought it couple of months ago and below is the list of damages before the build began.
Jumped a curb, right front wheel cracked, hub out, rotor cracked, subframe lower arm mounts bent, wheel moved back and damaged the fender, about an inch damage on the rear quarter panel, rear wheel damaged and rear upper arm ball-joint broken. Both bags popped breaking the windshield and locking up the driver seat belt.

    Work performed by me
Replacement of the subframe by lowering the front left and right suspensions while resting the drivetrain on a dolly. Used subframe completed and moved up to its original position. All 6 allen and 4 15mm bolts alligned as they should meaning there was no frame damage. Both airbags replaced, windshield purchased from the Rusnak Pasadena $ 1400.00 and replaced, driver seatbelt replaced, rear suspension completely removed with the axel and the good used unit swapped in. Went over the vehicle to make sure everything is good, one start and it purred. Drove to a friends body shop in Northridge CA to have the front fender replaced and the rear quarter panel worked on. Passenger side completely painted to blend the paint given we had front and rear work done on the vehicle.

Please note that all parts used to rebuild this vehicle came from a 11k mile QP. REcords can be provided as I still have the parts vehicle. So, no worn out crap was put on this vehicle. It wears 19" 2009 QP sport wheels with good front and not so good rear tires. Vehicle ECU was hard reset at the Auto Gallery in Canoga Park, which included resetting the airbags, recalibrating the pass seat weight sensor, recalibrating the trunk locking mechanism and other Christmas lights that came to lit during the process.

Pricing. They are all over the place. I am asking 23.5k for this one due to the fact its a low mileage example, in clean condition, and confident on the work performed. You may find a clean title one for this price, maybe, but it wont be this car. Expect to pay over 30 for an apple to apple comparison vehicle. Inspections are welcome and it passed CA emissions and is currently registered and insured.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Hi Steve

I sincerely do wish you all the best with the sale. Its a gorgeous car. For the right person who will hold onto this car an love it for a long time the salvage title should be an opportunity to own a real beauty at a better than wholesale Manheim auction value

A friend bought a "rebuilt" M3 once and ended up with electronic/computer nightmares (mismatched computer modules). Took forever and $$ to sort out the glitches. On this QP are all the original electronics in place? When you say "hard reset" what does that mean exactly?

Do any of you who have owned/dealt with salvage titles know the answer to the questions below:

Can you get a 3rd party extended maintenance / warranty on Salvage vehicles?
Any insurance issues in getting coverage for collision/comprehensive on a previously repaired car?
How does a dealer view Salvage Title cars if you ever wanted to trade-in?

I'd be very interested but these are the things that weigh into the valuation in my mind.

....but I strongly suspect the poster already knows the answers.

Beautiful car. It definitely wouldn't have been salvaged if it were a Chevy. Nice work Steve!

I take all of your inputs as very constructive and thank you Bruce

To answer the questions from JF308
    Extended warranty?
I hardly doubt someone will offer extended warranty on salvage cars. But you may check to see. I have never dealt with it before to give an educated answer. Given you are in Co, you have my full support over the phone in case something goes wrong, any time, replacement parts since I have a parts car and a friend who deals with QPs day in day out, any CELs, quick fixes, etc. I can confirm the dealer quotes also if anything were to be fixed to make sure you are not taken for a ride. Extended warranty is a specially sensitive topic with clean title exotics let alone salvage ones.
    Insurance?
The vehicle is currently insured with Gaico. If you shop for insurance via online sources, 95% of the major firms' drop down selection does not include Maserati. You have to call them and they will quote you via internal software. Although my wife's car is a clean title, its insured by AAA. AAA also covers salvage.
    Dealer trade in?
Not a viable option. They have to turn around and wholesale it below 50% of market value to a small mom and pop dealer or manheim. I have dealt with salvage cars for 20 years. Resale works exactly as you buy it now. The % you pay based on market value is the same % you will get when you sell it couple of years down the line. Example, 100k car paid 70k today, 5 years later 70k car you will sell for 49k. Of course this example wont work if the vehicle is driven to the ground for the next 25 years and no salvage value is left of it :)

Info to consider. Dealer oil change is $ 585.00 down here. Same process as a Camry. One oil filter and 9-10 quarts of synthetic oil. Why? Beats me. You can have your local lube service tech do it or any car wash that offers oil change with free wash :) Seriously !

Hope I have answered the questions to your concerns.

My thought is that purchasing a salvage title car makes sense when one plans to use the car as a DD and drive it for an extended period where the value of a non-salvage title car would have little value either. The cost of the vehicle is not a bunch of money so with a ten year use period the cost would be $2,300/year. Which doesn’t seem bad for such a nice vehicle? If the car is something you really like and the price is right they why not?

Then gift the car to a charity when one has finished using the car and take whatever tax deduction is available. I can't imagine anyone buying an old car with lots of miles with a salvage title unless it is a very, very special collectible car in which case anything is possible. Many of the old race cars were “totaled” and brought back and sold to knowing buyers. The car in question is not in that category so the purchaser needs to be the one who uses all the utility of the vehicle IMHO.

You pulled the words out of my mouth. I did not want to sound like a typical car sales man given I have done it for so long, so I rather have someone like you express my thought as I agree with you :)
Even if its not a daily driver, look on the bright side, 2k miles per year at minimal, after 5 years you have an 08QP with 35k miles on a 13 year old car. Not bad hey? Almost 3k/yr. I drool over cars with so low miles, especially the 560SL for sale currently in the forum
