    I have a Japanese friend that needs to reset his Service Engine Counter. He just got a new set of wheels a couple months ago, but the car wants the rotation service done. Can anyone help out? Thanks....

    P.S. All other required maintenance was also done in-house, so he would just like to save a trip to the dealer (and $$$) since all the hardwork is done.

    Why is the SES/check engine light on?

    Is it because the engine isn't running?

    There is a tool called Leonardo that can be used to reset the service interval indicator(which is different than the check engine light) but it is expensive

    Yeah, the engine was not running. The "Service Stop Expired" light goes away after about 5 seconds, but it's just annoying to see it every time. I'm sure it's just a friendly reminder and has nothing to do with Diagnostics. There is nothing in his manual to show how to reset.

    I can get to the Service Stop menu but no options are available. There's got to be some Key and Button sequence to reset it.

    P.S.--As pointed out hotbmwm3 on a previous post, the car is not running so please ignore the Engine and Seat Belt Lights.

    Gotcha, so this is the service interval and requires a service tool. Thanks for the info!!
