http://www.leftlanenews.com/chevrolet-corvette-zr1.html Top Speed over 200mph (estimated) 620 HP 0-60 close to 3.0 seconds Etimate price: $100,000 Still a "Corvette?" Or will this beast outdo the LP640 and 599 (not in looks, that's understood)? Image Unavailable, Please Login
It will be a great performing car for the money, probably the best, but it is still a Corvette. I honestly can never look at a vette and be attracted. The numbers are extremely respectable, but it looks like a Z06 with some extra cooling ducts and more CF. The car has the potential to outdo both the LP640 and 599. It has more HP then the 599 and I believe weighs less then both. No doubt about it, it will be a great car(minus the interior).
Tiff Needell said the Z06 C6 is as fast as the 599 GTB and the ZR1 is better than the Z06 in every aspect according to Chevrolet. So it will definitely outrun the 599. http://fast-autos.net/vehicles/Chevrolet/2009/Corvette_ZR1/
There is no doubt the ZR1 is an incredible machine and will beat the pants off of anything it goes up against, but I think everyone except die-hard Corvette enthusiests will agree that it will never have the soul of the Italians.
Hey Doc hold on to your pants, there is a Murci SV coming out that will do around 225 MPH so don't get your panties twisted, it's still a Chevi baby
i cant believe gm made anotther pushrod engine, WTF? and than calling it a ZR1 on top of it... NOT to mention its got front and rear monoleaf springs... Its cool, but freakin hell gm needs to up thier game and stop using stone age technology
lol Drive This. how does it go it's america's heartland Never happen still American, my Friend Seth tells me the other day he jumps into a Ford Gt and the inside is a damn Mustang cheap American stuff
I love the power of the vehicle but I am very disappointed that they needed a supercharger to get the power. The new Viper does 600HP naturally aspirated with a $20,000 cheaper price tag. With the extra $20,000, you can get a supercharger and be pushing 800+HP and still have money left over. Just a little odd that they went the supercharger route.
I would have proffered the car be naturally aspirated myself, but there is no denying it is the "The King of the Hill" There is no car enthusiast that can say a Corvette doesn't have a soul. After 50 plus years of existence very few marques let alone cars have as storied an existence as the Vette. Like it or not the Corvette is the benchmark of performance. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, I love the exotics I own a few but a spade is a spade.
don't forget, the viper has 2 extra cylinders, so it only has to work 80% as hard as the V8 would to make that 600 figure. For that 20 grand extra you get Traction Control, Navi, Full Leather, Carbon Fiber Everything, an exhaust that DOESN'T sound like a UPS truck, and a very limited production car. I guess Vipers are limited production too, they are limited to as many as they can possibly sell.... Oh yeah, and I got a hundred bucks that says a ZR1 will walk a '08 Viper 8 days a week.
Gee, I wonder where they got the idea to expose part of the engine. But only part, The car probably has more plastic in it then a tupperware factory anyway. It's truely amazin when people say "this car has this from a ferrari" or "it can do that better then a ferrari." Listen folks no matter what you do to a car. IT'S STILL NOT A FERRARI ! Jay Leno is right he has more money brains.
Thats easy to say if you think ferrari is the best car out there. Its hard for me to ever compare anything to a ferrari, because it doesn't set the bar or outperform competitors in any catagory besides resale value
For $20K more, it better walk all over the Viper but sadly that will not be the case. It will most likely beat the Viper but not by much. As for the other things Traction control to a good driver, will only hinder performance Navigation is available on the new Viper Full Leather is in the Viper minus the dash Carbon fiber is not as abundant as the Corvette but the exhaust on the 2008 is sweet Personally like I stated before, I would save the $20,000 and purchase the Viper and if I had an ego complex, modify it to beat the Vette but that is not me personally. At least I get a one of a kind car versus pulling up to a regular C6 and looking pretty much the same to 8 out of 10 people on the road. Don't get me wrong, the new ZR1 looks great, but it is still a Corvette that only Vette loyals for the most part are going to buy since most people can not see spending $100,000 for a Corvette.
