Howdy all. I started a quick registry on another board to see how many of the 300 or so 2009 GT's with the F1 transmission we could find. I know there are or were a couple folks here with one also. Shoot me a message or let me know, I can copy the list here too if there's any interest. I'm up to about 16 cars so far although most of them I've found by perusing for sale ads.

It's a fun car, I've had mine a little over a year now. You can pick one up pretty cheap these days, less than $40k. There are probably at least a dozen on Cargurus right now. :)

How are the ways that one can confirm that it is a true F1 transmission rather than an automatic slush box with paddles, as is so common?

Yup, as stated you will only see this instead of a shift handle like any automatic....(Mine is missing the ashtray lid and trim ring around the cupholders but this is the only visual way to tell easily. )

Then there was a European version which eliminated the back seat. I beleive that became the basis for the race car?

They continued selling the GT- S in other markets than USA with the F1 trans. The MC is the "special edition" in the US but still with the auto transmission, the rest of the world got the MC Stradale with the F1 box. I don't think any of the convertibles ever got the F1 trans either that I know of.

The race version was the Trofeo series. Was just reading the other day where a gent in the UK bought one of these and made it street legal. WILD ride on the street I imagine. https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/granturismo-mc-trofeo-road-registered.30447/
