Just saw pics of the new MB SL and IMO they really botched it. They took a gorgeous front end and made it look like a cheap japanese econobox with the overly angular design and mis-shapen headlights. What a shame. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have an office near MB's northern New Jersey headquarters and have seen a few of these zipping down Chestnut Hill Road. Your assessment is correct. The design is not attractive.
I agree. Although it still looks good, the old model was imo perfection. Not sure how they could have tried to improve on that model without messing something up. They have even bigger shoes to fill for the replacement model.
Sad part is it probably wont hurt sales one bit since so many simply buy these cars as status symbols
Not good. That's what happens when you try to 'freshen up' a conservative design with boy-racer add ons.
I'm waiting to see the car in person before I make my decision... but I must admit...I'm not really into it at the moment. I'm a huge fan of the current model!
yup, they screwed it up........not to even mention how it makes owners feel that MB did 2 facelifts within 2 years...

I think someone just dragged the bumper backing out of the driveway... Nope, on second thought, looks like another German creation that will cost $100K new and 18 months later will be worth $50k; just like the one parked in my garage, and half the garages in my neighborhood. Man that new Camaro looks fun though.
Yup, I saw the old one on the street today and then thought how perfect it looked and how in this case the new one just SUCKS!
Good lord that's ugly. I thought the purpose of a facelift is to make the car look better. Looks like the MB design computers ran out of polygons.
It's practically unanimous then. I couldn't agree more. The '09 SL is a typical Mercedes decision in fixing something that isn't broken. Terrible redesign. Methinks the desirability of the '06-'08s just went up.
That's the current 2008 facelift............it's awful. MB really messed up this one. The 2007 SL looks were great.
After seeing the initial photoshop pics, I didn't like it. After seeing the real pics, I still didn't like it. Then I saw it in F1... now, it doesn't look that bad... I still like the previous (current) model better, but maybe the upcoming model will grow on me... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Exactly......that was a total screw up. I sold my 2005 SL55 to buy the facelifted 2007 SL55 with the upgraded engine and in 2008 MB introduces a 2nd facelift........really unbelievable.......someone is really on drugs at MB.

Wow, that profile pic is hideous. I was honestly on the fence but now.... It looks like the euro bumbe regs really screwed this one up. I read an article about how the front end clashes with the rest of the car. Very square angular front end with smooth graceful sides/ rear end. Wth are they thinking?
It sort of looks like the Chrysler styling guys stayed around too long after Octoberfest... This is one of those spy pictures where the car still has the camouflage on the hood etc, right? CH
